Firefighters pull teen from chimney
(Albuquerque-AP) -- It wasn't such a brilliant idea after all.
A 15-year-old girl who was locked out of an Albuquerque house
tried to shimmy down the chimney yesterday evening as a way in.
Albuquerque Fire Department Lieutenant Jeff Eschenburg says her
boyfriend apparently gave her the idea. It was his house they were
trying to get into.
Eschenburg says the girl nearly made it to the bottom.
Firefighters could see her feet inside the fireplace when they
arrived.
A firefighter eventually coaxed her to move her arm around and
free it. Firefighters then lowered a webbing in the chimney, she
grabbed it and they pulled her up.
The girl was stuck for about 30 minutes but was not injured --
only covered with soot.
Eschenburg says the girl -- whose name was not available -- was
embarrassed more than anything.
