SANTA ROSA, Calif. (AP) - A Cloverdale firefighter resigned
after he allegedly made a string of phony 911 calls, sending
sheriff's deputies on a goose chase throughout Sonoma County as
they attempted to track down non-existent auto accidents and
stabbings.
Investigators traced the cell phone calls to Christopher Piehl,
21, of Cloverdale. Piehl has since stepped down from his position
with the Cloverdale Fire Department, fire chief Brian Elliott told
The Press Democrat.
"We took it very seriously and started our own investigation.
That is now concluded because the employee has resigned," Elliott
said.
Investigators traced the bogus emergency calls to Piehl's cell
phone, The Press Democrat reported.
