Engine Rollover in Vegas

I just received word via a friend in the city of sin that an engine was involved in a very bad mva today and rolled over. I am not certain the extent of the injuries, but from what I was told this is the skinny:

3 Seriously injured
1 Critical & Fighting for his Life

Let's keep our brother's in our thoughts and prayers... :(

Nevermind, I found the story myself in the Las Vegas Review Journal. Engine ran out of Station 6. One of the firefighters involved had no feeling from the neck down after the accident. Let's all offer up a prayer for our brothers involved in this incident, wishing them all a speedy recovery.

Four Las Vegas firefighters recovering after fire engine rolls

(Las Vegas-AP) -- Four Las Vegas firefighters are recovering
from their injuries after their fire engine rolled over on the U-S
Highway 95 Rainbow Boulevard ramp.
One firefighter was critically injured and had no feeling from
the neck down, the Nevada Highway Patrol said.
Three others in the truck suffered minor injuries. Two were
expected to be released from U-M-C this weekend.
The accident happened about 11-40 p-m Friday just north of the
Rainbow curve.
The fire engine rolled onto its left side while trying to exit
at the Rainbow Boulevard ramp. It skidded several feet before
sliding into a guardrail.
The names of the firefighters have not been released.
The firefighters were responding to reports of smoke in an
apartment complex near Rainbow Boulevard and Silverstream Avenue.

I live just right up the road from where the crash took place. I even know one of the firefighters in that crash. I have a picture and have attached it of the crash, while I wasn't at the scene myself, I know a lot of firefighters who were. It was Engine 6 out of Station 6, which is the busyest Engine company in the city of Las Vegas. One year alone, it had over 3,000 calls! 3 of the firegfighters are out of the hospital. It's the Capt. that was most hurt of all, as far as I know, he's still in the hospital. I'll post more informaiton on this as I get it.

Also, Engine 6 was the only one in the crash. No other car, truck, SUV, ect was in the crash. Nevada Highway Patrol is doing the investigation into the crash.

Not to detract from the seriousness of this, but does anyone know if seatbelts were worn by the FF's?

Could the injuries have been prevented or lessened if they were?

The best bet might be to wait till NHP is done with it's investigation. That could be month's though.....

(Las Vegas-AP) -- A fund has been set up to help a Las Vegas
firefighter who was seriously injured last week when a fire engine
crashed into a guardrail.
Details of Captain Theo Adams' injuries have not been released,
but a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper says one of the four
firefighters on the engine had no feeling below his neck.
The other firefighters have all been treated and released from
the hospital.
Adams remains at University Medical Center, where he was taken
after the Halloween crash at the Rainbow Boulevard exit off U-S
9-5.
Donations for Adams can be made at any Washington Mutual Bank
branch to account number 3-8-0-2-0-2-8-3-6-1. They can also be
mailed to P-O Box 3-6-3-6-3, Las Vegas, Nevada, 8-9-1-3-3.
The Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
At the time of the crash, the fire engine was responding to a
call.

only one wearing a seatbelt.

According to my source, the driver was the only one in the engine with a seat belt. He received minor injuries. All others including the Captain who is very critical were unrestrained.
