I just attended a Command class. They used the 2 way radios you can get a K-Mart. (FRS radios). Assign people different positions, give them a scenario, and cut them loose.

I thought I responded to this previously but must not have because I do not see my post.

We have taken some of our bigger calls and had dispatch record the tapes for us to play back. This gives our members something to listen to and see how it has sounded. It always sounds worse on the tape. Then let them critiqe the incident. Radio communications will usually come out of it. At least it has ours. You can even do the same using the little radio shack radios (FRS type) Set up a couple of building scenarios and use the FRS system and record it. Then play that back. Once they here that they have problems or it sounds bad they will (should) start correcting themselves or at least think about it.

Hope this helps

I like the idea of listening to the recordings. If you don’t have a way of recording them at dispatch, there is a freeware program (designed by a ham, I think) which will record from a scanner. E-mail me if you want a copy of the program. petresch@yahoo.com
