Does everyone remember their first call, whether it was an MVA, medical assist or a fire? I've only been on the department for a year and a half, but I can hardly remember my first one. I know that it was an MVA, but I guess that it wasn't that memorable. Is that strange?

Yeah, I remember my first call as an ambulance student (we were required to get in a minimum of 400 hrs ride out with a tutor crew before we could graduate)
It was a bicycle accident, with a witness stating the victim's bike 'literally blew apart'. A young man, HELMETLESS, riding like stink down the main drag of Toronto, so we're talking extremely heavy traffic here. His mountain bike came apart at the crossbar and handlebar welds, basically collapsing, and throwing the rider off. Minor scrapes and bruises, but a concussion for sure. He had retrograde amnesia and must have asked me 20 times what happened.
His reason for not wearing a helmet? Didn't want to mess his hair up!! Considering he had extremely short hair which was so thick with hair gel it was practically a helmet itself, I couldn't understand why he gave that answer. Back then, I had an unfailing belief in people, that they really did have common sense and couldn't be THAT stupid, so I found the answer really surprising. Boy, have I ever changed my perceptions of the public!!
