When I went down to visit the Medicine Hat FD, I met the coolest FF. He had both ears pierced, and flames tattooed on his arms. He also had a design on his chest. Sound like any of the guys YOU know?

I'm thinking of getting a tattoo on my back. Any females out there with firefighting tattoos? Any advice? Any websites with cool FF tattoos? :p

Apparently, this site is not idiot proof. They should do something about that. I have no idea what I did.

I don't know if I'm actually going to get a tattoo. I like them, and I think they're neat. I don't want something massive and gaudy or anything, but I'd like something to express my spirit.

What about piercings? I have a navel piercing. Is that gross? I don't think so. I think it's pretty. It's just a simple little barbell with pink gems. It's cute

I like tattos myself, having amassed quite a collection. I don't wear any of my piercings at work, but they are there too. I can definitely appreciate the finer points of a tattoed female! Then again, I can also appreciate the finer points of a female in general, tattoed or not.

I don't want to limit myself in this regard.

Interesting post jaybird!?

To answer your question blaze...

If you are serious about getting a tattoo, think about it long and hard, when you have decided that you really, really want a tattoo, think about it some more! When you have that done, then think about what you want, keep in mind that it will be there for the rest of your life. A tattoo that cost a couple of hundred dollars, will cost a couple of thousand to take off!

Before you think this is another lecture about not getting one, I will tell you I have three. I did the above thought process with all of mine and I have not regretted them in the least. I would suggest getting them in an inconspicuous location. It would be a shame for a dept to pass you by or terminate you because you have a tattoo that can't be covered by a uniform. Also go with a custom design. Anyone can go in and pick one off a wall, but if you come up with a design on your own, it will mean more to you. You don't have to be an artist, just get a basic sketch and take it to a parlor and they will work it up for you.

A couple of other caveats:
You get what you pay for, don't always go with the cheapest.
Ask about their sterilizing equipment, ask to see it, if they get bent out of shape about it, RUN!!!
Remember that as you get older, your skin will sag/loose shape, small writing on tattoos will blur or become unreadable after a while because of that.
If you do get one, take care of it, use sunscreen on it to keep the colors from fading.(learned that one the hard way)

And I know my opinion is only one in the many thousands here, but a tattoo, tastefully done is attractive on a female. Piercings are OK, but I am not fond of the facial ones, due to the safety issues they pose on emergency calls.

Good luck on your quest for ink!

Also, go to www.strikethebox.com for some fire related tats.

Thank you for the input. I've been deciding for about a year now if I actually want a tattoo. I'm thinking of a small dragon or a butterfly at the small of my back. That area is easily hidden, and easily exposed. Besides, nobody is going to see my wrinkly back when I'm 80, so it's all good. Well, I shouldn't say "nobody" because there will probably be some hot paramedics that will have to haul my ass to the hospital. They'll see my tattoo and think, "Wow, she must've been pretty cool in her day."

Right.....

I have one tattoo, the fighting Irishman in gear on my right calf. It is relly big, 6 inches long and about 5 wide. I agonized over it for months. But it states who I am, an Irish;) firefighter. Piercings are not appropriate for the job. As far as females are concerned, they have be tasteful and in the right spot in order to be sexy.

Absolutely. Also I think that they are meant to be shown off, so don't put one on a part of your body that you would not normally show people.

Okay. My ears are pierced (only one in each ear) so I can wear nice earrings when I go somewhere nice. That's tasteful.
My navel is pierced because it's sexy. So I have a tasteful side AND a sexy side.

Anyway

Ok.. You have seen all the advise about tats. I have several and they show a piece of my life (names of my children in hearts over my heart), my heritage (Native American) and my kids' nicknames into artwork (Bee, Butterfly, and Bud).. I don't think it is graffiti but a part of me. I did however, put them on my calves so I know when I need to wear something that covers them.

Take all of the above posters' advise as it is very good.

As far as piercings - I also have several of those. Most are covered by more than my clothes so seeing them isn't an everyday issue. However, my tongue ring is taken out the minute I sit my butt in a rig/ambulance. I think it is tacky to wear there as I think I have to give credibility through not just my knowledge but my appearance too. Earrings are nice as long as they too aren't tacky and my nose ring comes out on most days.

Good luck with your choices Blaze.. :) Have fun with it!!

I agree with everyone else, you definitely want to consider that what you get is there for good. On a woman the one place I find extremely sexy is the small of the back. Piercings are cool. Just keep everthing tastefull and put them in locations that can be covered if neccesary.

ask people where they got their tattoos. You want someone who is great at detail. My 3 share similiar colors that ties them together. I have one on each hip and one at the base of my spine. I am planning to connect all 3. Make sure your designs mean something to you.

if you ever decide to have them taken off, green is the hardest color to have removed. And I ma told that the process hurts.

Someone told me I have Moron on my forehead...**shrugs** but I don't see it. ????

Simple, you have to trick the Tattoo into showing itself Stayback.

Here's what you do... stand very very still and look down at your feet. This will draw the tattoo into a false sense of security. Then, when you think it isn't looking, throw your head back and look up as fast as you can. If you're lucky, you'll catch it off guard and you will be able to see it.....:D

It might take a few tries, so make sure you do it alot. If anyone asked what your doing, don't say anything because the tattoo will hear you and know what you are up too....

...actually, come to think of it, you probably should have covered up your forehead when you read this... chances are the tattoo is reading it as well...

On a side note, where did you find room for "Moron" on your forehead with the tattoo of the stop sign taking up so much room....???

"STOP" is more like a scar, rather than tattoo...

We could have a Stayback Tell-a-thon to help raise the money for you..
