View Full Version : Adze as an honorary flatlander!

ChiefReason

Since Adze is making regular visits to the Illinois thread, I thought that we could reward that with honorary status as a flatlander.
President of the Illinois Chapter of the IACOJ, Jaybird; I pose the question to you. Will you grant the special dispensation needed to make Adze an honorary member?
Or would you like to see the results of the poll?

I have spent a great deal of time considering this topic. I have consulted with the highest authorities available.

After great contemplation, I have reached the following conclusion, and propose the following resolution:

WHEREAS Adze is a member in good standing of the IACOJ. And

WHEREAS he has posted here (albeit uninvited), repeatedly, thereby boosting our post count. And

WHEREAS his posts are entertaining and unconfrontational(unlike some ***coughartcoughcough**):p

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED I do hearby support the motion to make Adze an honorary flatlander.

Having said that, I consider this a democracy, and will leave the matter to popular vote. I am sure Adze has voted for himself.

That's okay, Adze. I would expect you to vote for yourself. That's one more step in becoming a flatlander: stuffing the ballot box!!!!:D :D

Vote early, and vote often.:p

Vote early, vote often and vote.......no?

I'm sorry, but I have to vote against the resolution. As I said earlier in the discussion, having a neighbor come in is one thing, but a New Englander is another. Adze, nothing personal, but it would be like letting Hillary run for the senate for Illinois. I know she's not from CT, but, hey, maybe next time. I'll bet the Canadians will be wanting in next. I will, however, support the majority and, if it so happens, welcome you into the great Land of Lincoln.

Ouch that hurts!!!

No we'll have to see if more people vote "no" now that you made that brave step to go against the majority.

Jeez, Jack, I didn't realize you were so exclusionary! You make a good argument though. I suppose this won't be such a clear-cut vote after all.

Good thing this isn't a voice vote. We'll have to count and recount each vote.

Buck up, Adze! It's still a landslide at 5-1. :D

How long are the polls open, Mr. President Jaybird, sir? I'm sure this man can't take the pressure for more than a couple of days. Besides, I can see he's just waiting for me to kneel down in front of him and say "welcome to Illinois". What's the nickname for people from CT?

trainer, if you haven't already done so, you gotta vote at the poll at the top of the thread. That's the only way your vote will count.
Being from down south, we watch the polls pretty close to make sure nobody cheats. I know you guys up north would never thing of doing something like that, but down here we can't be too cautious.

Jack:
I agree that we don't want to turn the Illinois forum into a "general discussion" thread. What I look at is the fact that people outside of Illinois are taking time out of their busy schedules to visit with us; the representatives of our great state of ILLINOIS! I don't want to give 'em the key to the city, but I just thought that, when we have company, we should make them feel welcome.
And I have to agree that the CANADIANS will probably want in next. Someone else can post that poll!;)

I wasn’t sure if this was legal or not so I have spent all night reviewing the legal pages for the State of Illinois. After researching several election and citizenship laws I think I have found a loophole that may allow Adze to enter.

Chapter 700 ILCS 705/432.1
Paragraph 7
Line 32
Honorary flatlanders may allowed to enter the state of Illinois if they belong to an adjoining state bordering Illinois
Other applicants that are not from a state bordering Illinois may not be allowed.

Fine print in corner of page says

EXCEPT Any candidate, after being nominated by the president, that receives a majority vote of approval in a five day special election may join. If approved, the honorary flatlander shall be identified at all times by placing a large paper bag over his/her head. This bag must be displayed at all times to identify them as an outside honorary flatlander. Severe penalties may apply if found in violation of the flatlander laws. The fine for the first offence shall be no lesser than 40 hours to be spent in the Jr/explorers forum before reentry is allowed.

Outstanding work, 80!!

I nominate you for the official title of Grand Exalted High Secretary of Legal Affairs!!

As our esteemed collegue from south of I-80 has found by plowing through the Illinois Compiled Statues (a daunting task, no doubt), we have a loophole.

LET THE ELECTION CONTINUE!!

(Adze, I am predicting a landslide, Jack be damned!!!! ;) :D :D :p )

(just kidding Jack!)

80 didn't quite read far enough. 700ILCS706.1.1 says, and I quote:
"For any election to be true and valid, a majority of participants must cast their ballots in the election". I know that we have had more than 11 different members of the state of Illinois post on the Illinois Forum, therefore, somebody has to count up how many different posters there have been to see how many ballots must be cast for this to be legal and binding. I'm not counting them - somebody else do it.
Adze, better get out and politic a little. Kiss some mothers and shake some babies. That doesn't sound right. Maybe that's why I got beat in our county board election.

First off, Adze lives in the Connecticut (River) Valley, so he's already a flatlander. I live in the Hills.

Second, what is this stuff about starting controversial threads about Nutmeggers. I think it's an attempt to jack up your numbers and unfairly increase your lead in the number of posts.

I have half a mind to post pictures of my four Dalmatians, 1 spot at a time, under the Connecticut section just to get back up to speed after these shenagins.

I was only worried about the Canadian. This whole forum is going to, well, the dogs! Everybody wants to be associated with the leaders. I think I'll go post something in Hawaii, or Idaho.

I have completed an entirely unofficial, unscientific, and probably inaccurate count.

By my figures, there have been 19 different folks posting here (hard to believe). This does not county Honorary Member 1835Wayne. It also does not count the pain in the butt cannucks or other lurkers. :p

So, therefore, I declare that we must have at least 10 votes cast to make this a legal referendum. One to go Adze. Get your friends in here to stuff the box.

Speaking of a referendum, does it bother anybody else when the papers talk about "referendums?" I really wish they'd call 'em "referenda," but maybe that's asking too much.

Officer's meeting now. I'll check the returns later.

By my figures, we have two here from Connecticut. That's like half the population of the state. One more and they can move the entire state to Illinois. We'll put them down-state with Jack. We shall call them "South Chicago". Wow! That's a doozy!:D
God, I crack myself up. Am I the only one who can hear this voice in my head? Is this thing on?
Bali Hi! No; that was "South Pacific".

Dal, yes I live in the CT River Valley. The section I live in is actually Tobacco Valley. We aren't flat over here, that's the other side of the river. Yet, we are not as hilly as you guys.

I guess you can call people from CT Nutmeggers. We are the Nutmeg State after all (and the Constitution State). Anyone from outside CT know why we are the Nutmeg State? Can anyone answer it without looking it up on the internet?

And Dal, we need to post over in CT. I think those guys from Trumbull must have gotten their own forum or something...haven't seen them around.

To everyone else: If I show a pic of me in Chicago and my name on the wall at Gino's East, will that help my chances?

80, since CR has the experience, being as how he's a BMI investigator, he should do the background check. But we all know how that'll come out since he's the one that started this whole mess.

The polls having closed after five full days of voting, the official count is as follows:

14 votes in favor of the motion.
1 vote opposed (nice job, Jack! :p).

A majority of the posters in this forum, having voted freely in an open election, have spoken. As Honorary President of the Illinois Chapter of the International Association of Crusty Old Jakes, I do hereby declare Adze39 an Honorary Flatlander, with all the rights, honors and priveliges thereunto appertaining.
