Any of you guys got a Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control Plan and a Respiratory Protection Program on your computer? Since that stinking Tamaroa train wreck IDOL made a visit and he hammered us. We were doing yearly SCBA evaluations but he didn't like our form, etc., etc., etc....
I'd appreciate some help. Got 45 days to get this all in place. If somebody could e-mail me something I could use it would be greatly appreciated.

Jack:
I have both on the computer at work. You will have to tweak it to your purpose, but the main components are there. Trust me; it would be better than starting from zero.
I take it the IDOL guy steered you towards the OSHA regs on these two?
If not; www.osha.gov.
Type the number of the standards into the "search" and they should pop right up.
1910.134 Respiratory Protection
1910.1030 Bloodborne Pathogens
I will get to the office on Monday and attach them to an email for you.
They are in the Microsoft Word format.
Hope this helps.
Don't worry about it. You have the templates coming.

CR, thanks. I hope every little old volunteer dept. realizes that they'll get busted, too, if we don't do this by the book. We've been doing an evaluation every year with a doctor coming in to the station and following OSHA's old regs. IDOL didn't even want to look at it if it wasn't following the new rules. I think ours was actually more strict than the new ones. Bloodborne Pathogens we've neglected. We should have since we do 1st Responder. We'll get it going. Got 45 days, anyway.
Maybe Cap could use them, too. Sounds like he's about in the same shape as me.

Cap, I looked at a couple of them like the one you led me to. Just seems like I'd have to change a whole lot to make them fit a fire dept. I'm still hoping for a FD or ambulance service to e-mail me one and I can change the name and be ready to go. Lazy, huh?

Lazy, huh?

Lazy, nothin'!! Don't re-invent the wheel. It's a helluva lot cheaper to give somebody else's stuff (with the names changed) to your attorney and say, "Look this over, please," then to either a) write yer own shee-it; or b) have your attorney write sompin from scratch. ('Specially since most of the sneaky SOBs would just do what you're doing anyway, then charge you for 60 hours....)

OK, Jay, you're one of those amublance type people. You guys gotta have a bloodborne pathogen policy. Let's see it. I need help!
You know, this IDOL thing isn't what I needed right now. We're getting bids on a new engine, trying to design a new station (granted it won't be anything fancy but there's a village board that's building it and a federal grant and a state grant all involved in it and guess who has to get it all together) and now IDOL. And we had another call at 4:00 this morning. That's all but one night this week that we got woke up. Maybe the lack of sleep is making me crabby. And I haven't even told the trustees that we got 4 violations from IDOL.

Thank you, Jay. You've taken care of one of my problems all by yourself. I really appreciate it.
Everybody else, Jay has gotten me an infectious disease/bloodborne pathogen plan that I will use with very few changes. I do still need the respirator policy. Hopefully, CR will get that taken care of for me on Monday.

you're right Jack, I need both also. We've got nothing on paper. Hell, the trustees have never even heard of NFPA let alone NIOSH or what IDOL can enforce.

Way to go, Jay.
Jack; do you want the document to come to your email account here or do you have a different address that you want the respirator plan sent to?
You will need to either download or scan maintenance instructions specific to your SCBAs. That is all you will need to do. I have the rest. MONDAY!

Thanks for the wakeup call Jack. I have checked and found our Respiratory Protection Program is out of date also. If they would not accept yours as you described I am sure they wont like ours.

CR can you send me a copy of the plan also.

What other things did they look at Jack?
DOL has never been to our fire house since I have been on the department. (Knock on wood)
Has anyone ever requested DOL to come do one of their voluntary audits. Heard they will not issue any violations and give a reasonable amount of time to get things corrected.

CR, you can send it to the account here. I sometimes have trouble getting attachments so if it doesn't work, I'll get you a different address. Thanks a lot.

I know you can get an example Respiratory Protection Program online via OSHA...trying to remember if it was Fed OSHA, Conn-OSHA or both...

I know Firefighter26 has a very detailed RPP, we have a very general one. Email him and ask him for them, he'll email them too you. If you want, email me and I can email you ours as well.

Anyone who would like a copy of the Respiratory Protection Plan needs to give me an email address that is not a firehouse.com email. I cannot attach it to one linked to here.
If I can, someone smarter than me needs to explain it to me.:p
Sorry.

Darin, if you have a current version of Word, it should be able to convert the file. You may need the original Word CD to install the conversion part.

BEWARE! Sometimes converting does strange things to the edit. You may find tabs and CR (carrige returns, not ChiefReason) in funny places.

'Course, maybe we would find ChiefReason in funny places. I dunno. But that has nothing to do with this thread.

P.S. If you can't convert it, let me know. I believe WP will save files in Word format.....

P.P.S. Quit using that communist-Microsoft crap!!! :D

Thanks for the plans Jay and Art. With a little creativity they should both do nicely. Sure a lot better than starting from scratch. Enjoyed your PM's Jack thanks for your info also.

Now that my computer is working once and awhile, Art, I could use your help on the resp.program too. Email it to the department though.
Thanks in advance,
Mike
