This is actually a serious post, but I needed to gain your attention:

Use of stainless steel liquor flasks may be hazardous, Health Canada warns. Canadian Press Thursday, April 10, 2003

OTTAWA (CP) - Before sneaking that forbidden sip from the desk drawer, make sure the flask you're tipping back doesn't contain lead. Health Canada is warning that a number of stainless steel flasks sold in gift sets over the last four years may pose a lead exposure risk.

The seams and spouts of the flasks, sold between 1999 and 2003 in provincial or territorial retail liquor outlets across Canada, were fastened together with solder than contains a high proportion of lead.

The flasks hold six ounces (170.46 millilitres) of liquid and may be wrapped in leather.

Recalls have already been issued for two Appleton Estates gift sets, a Bacardi White Rum gift set and the Wiser's De Luxe Canadian Whiskey gift set, the department said Thursday.

Consumers are advised to contact local retail liquor outlets for specific recall, return and reimbursement information.

Tests conducted on one type of flask by the Quebec liquor control board showed hazardous levels of lead could transfer from the solder to the liquid within 24 hours.

The department warns that anyone who drinks liquor or other liquids stored in the flask for even a short time may be at risk of ingesting lead.

Lead is a toxic metal that can produce harmful effects even at low levels of exposure. Anyone using the flasks who suspects lead poisoning should contact a family physician for a blood test.

Health Canada is investigating the import and sale of the flasks.
