So, Art, any early returns yet? How many precints counted? What's going on? I can't get Galesburg radio up here.
Will there be any publicity photos? How 'bout a shot of you casting your vote?

Jay:
With no precincts reporting, pollsters are declaring it too close to call.
The National Republican Committee has identified this race as a key seat. They poured alot of money into the race in the hopes of reversing a trend.
Exit Poles are showing that it takes five of them to change a light bulb.:D
I will be smoking a Cuban-I mean, a Swisher cigar later on if I win.

MIKEY:
As a matter of fact, we do have this "problem" that I think could use the help of a couple of city boys.
We have a person involved in village politics that needs an attitude adjustment. You-I mean, do you know anyone who might be up to the task? Get in touch with me for a detailed map-I mean, the details!;)

Newschannel 8 has declared me the winner in the race for the 6 year term for fire district trustee.
With this win, I become the first trustee with fire service experience to be elected in the history of our fire district.
Though I did not garner as many votes as the person running for the unexpired 2 year term, I feel happy that I can continue my involvement with something that I truly enjoy.
There was a nasty race for village trustees that I weighed in on and I think that there was a small backlash from that, but I feel that a public official should not be in arrears on his property taxes whether he owes it to the county or to the tax buyer who purchased his unpaid taxes. Long story and I may discuss that at some future date. Right now, I want to enjoy the next phase of my life with a beverage and a cigar.
I want to thank everyone here for their support. I know some of it was in fun, but you all realize that elected officials should be well schooled in the issues of their office. I will serve on a board with a retired farmer and a current farmer and they are both great guys. But they know that I can bring a dimension to the board that they have not had in the past. I know that I can help them become better trustees and they can help me to become a better person.
Now, I am looking forward to Springfield in June.
Did you hear that? That was the sound of a can opening.:D

Let's see; I'm kinda new at this. I need to take official action on something.
I know! I am going to declare today, April 2nd as a GOLF holiday.
Yeah; I am going to play golf.
Anyone else; feel free!:D
Note the new signature.

CR, you're not in yet so there's nothing "official" that you can do. The votes have to be canvassed and you have to be sworn in at the next meeting. A lot can happen between now and then.
Once again, congratulations on a campaign well done. Even if you did let a pig farmer with no prior fire service experience get more votes than you.

Jack; you know something you're not telling me?
Come on, man; don't keep me hanging.
All right; no official act.
Screw it; I'm going golfing anyway. The rest of you stay where you are!

OK, TR, you should have been at at trustee's meeting by now. Did you rock the boat with anything new and exciting?

Rock the boat? Isn't that a song?
We had a meeting Monday nite. Canvassed votes. I officially take over in May. We will have a meeting to determine who will be President, Secretary and Treasurer. Don't know how that will play out. I know what I'd LIKE to do, but we'll see.
Thanks to all the well-wishers.
Hope we can do some good.

HiHo Everyone:
FormerChiefNowTrusteeReason here.
We had our first meeting last Saturday at the fire station. We held an election of officers. Harvey is the Secretary, Les is the Treasurer and I was elected President of the Board. Is that a hoot or what?
My first official act was to recommend that the board sponsor a team of firefighters in an upcoming golf event. It passed. Whew!
Found out that we are spending more for ambulance than we are budgeted. Gotta fix that and fast.
Told them that I was going to the conference in Springfield in June. Neither wanted to go. I will go Thurs. and Fri.
Next meeting is June. Guess I'd better get that public notice up!
Well, that's about it. This trustee thing wears me out. Without the great support that you have shown me, I don't think I could do it.
I need a vacation.

Well, looks like you went from CR to TR to PR all of a sudden. Congratulations on your presidency. The best thing about being the president is you also get to vote and make motions. You only need one more vote to get your way. Does the president have veto power? I really don't know about that.
It sure seems like it's been a long time since you first started talking about running for trustee. Was the meeting agenda posted 48 hours ahead? Otherwise you could be headed for jail.

agenda? you mean trustees have a stinking agendas. I know C/T/PR will always have an agenda. How many other districts' trustees have an agenda posted. The only agenda our trustees have is secret-til the firemen that attend get tired and go home-then our trustees get to their agenda:mad:

Our district has started posting an agenda although it is rather generic. They do put important things on it, especially if it involves spending money. There was a big stink right close to home where a city council failed to have something on their agenda. They got sued by the newspaper and got fined about $300 or $700 or something like that. They did not have to rescind any action taken. This just happened a couple of months ago. Agendas are becoming more and more important. Have the local news media attend a meeting or two. That'd get them going.

We keep talking about reporters showing up. The reason we don't has been that we can't get anything accomplished with them now. Reporters showing yp would just make matters worse.

Congratulations.. Art..CR..TR….Mr Pres… what ever your title is this week. :)
Glad your first meeting was successful. It would be nice to have someone with fire experience on the board. Sure you don’t want to move down here? We need to apply grease to our trustees before the meeting because there so tight they squeak.

I don’t remember which thread we talked about this in so I will put it here.
CR talked about several laws pending in IL for the fire service. After checking the status I found several had passed both the House and Senate in the last few days. They are HB 115 Revolving truck loans, HB116 penalties for false alarms, HB117 Motor fuel tax exemption, HB121 equipment exchange through OSFM, HB358 fines for improperly approaching emergency services vehicles. All of these bills passed both the House and Senate by unanimous or almost unanimous votes. Representative Moffitt from Art’s district sponsored most of these bills. He truly is a friend to the fire service.

80FIRE:
Thanks for the legislative update. I was at the fire station on Tues. and forgot to check email updates. I gotta find out how to get them routed to my home email addy.
I wish that we had someone from Illinois like Don in Washington, serving and protecting our fire service needs. It is growing more apparent that rolling FEMA and USFA in to the Department of Homeland Security will be the biggest mistake that the national fire service will ever make.
Don't believe me? Go read Bill Manning's latest article at the thread IMPORTANT-READ THIS. What an eye opener.
But, as Don and I have discussed many times, we need to position Illinois for when there is no longer a FIRE Act grant program.
That's getting done, at least.
