Well, okay, maybe not demolishes, but still pretty darn weird.
Sounds like a Stayback story.

"Dear Chief; This is how the roof got damaged. I swear I am not making this up: We were minding our own business, watching, "Are You Hot?" on TV, when all of a sudden, WHAM!!!!! this meteorite CRASHES through the roof over the apparatus bay!! You can't believe it! I swear we were NOT on the roof!"

Sounds like something that would happen in Clover Township. Attracted, no doubt, by the Mother-of-Pearl-White Cabs and fluorencent orange bodies......:D

Just where did this thing hit? I was listening to our local deputy tell dispatch that he saw a meteorite hit North of I-64 and that it lit up the sky. Right after that, my son called. He was about 5 miles from home and said the sky just lit up and he heard on his scanner that something flew out of the sky. Then a Perry County deputy (just south of us) said he saw it and that he heard it was north of 64. I heard it was wayyyyyy up north. Was it?

Jack, according to the news, it actually started down your way and finished up here. Park Forest, where this fire station got hit, is, I believe in MIKEY's neck o' the woods.....

"Yes, hello? Is this VFIS? Oh, good. This is Chief Reason. I want to file a claim on our 1978 panel van. Yes, the rescue truck. No, I think it's a total loss. It was hit by a meteorite........ Yes, that's what I said. (pause)No, I haven't had anything yet tonight. (pause) A meteorite. Well, for one thing, the paint is ruined. The mother-of-pearl fluorescent white cab is now singed brown. And the fluorescent orange is all spattered. And then there's the issue of the big hole in the roof. (pause) A meteorite. Yes. Fell out of the sky. (pause) No, I haven't had anything yet tonight. I am not making this up. This is not a crank call. I am serious......."

 :D :D :p

Special note for trainer and CR: I really don't care what color you or anybody else paints their trucks. I personnally prefer red, but who cares? See, if they can't see all the flashing lights, it doesn't matter what color the rigs are. But yours are clearly unique, hence I must bust your chops. Thank you for understanding.

Your pal,
Jaybird

Down hear in McLean county, they started paging out departments for a possible airplane crash on I-74. We were returning to quarters and didn't think much of it. Then dispatch said that they are receiving numerous phone calls of a plane exploding and falling to the ground on fire. That is when I got nervous. Turned out that people all over the county saw it happen and heard the boom that it made, but nobody could find a crash of any sort. Thats when we figured it could have been a meteorite. I think its pretty neat that someting that small can visible throughout a 3 state area.

Jay I have to drive by the station that houses the rescue truck in question. The mother-of-pearl-white and fluorecent orange mix to make a color combination so bright that you can tell when they have the doors to the station open because you can see the glow in the whole tri-county area. I usually have to put sunglasses on.   :D :D

First of all, let me name a few things that are fluorescent ORANGE.
Hunting hats and vests(deer season)
Everything worn by IDOT
Prisoner jumpsuits
Traffic cones
Now, I will name a few things that are fluorescent RED.
CTFD Truck 1
CTFD Engine 3
CTFD Rescue One
I swear; anyone who doesn't know the difference between fluorescent red and fluorescent orange probably doesn't know when the trash needs taking out, when the lawn needs mowing, when to throw out the chicken salad or when to change his socks.
And besides; fluorescent orange wasn't an option!
The color doesn't attract meteorites; it attracts Hooter girls!
Jay, really; I was getting concerned that you hadn't posted in a while and then you come in poking fun at our equipment. Trying to get something started, Mr. Connecticut? Then, go pick on the guys who have Lime Yellow rigs. They probably like the ballet, too!:p

they can,t sell em on quility so they sell em on paint.

Reminds me of the time we had two ambos side by side for comparison. One salesman stood back and answered any questions asked of him. The other followed a couple of us around and did nothing but bash the other's. Pissed me off. Don't sell me on how bad theirs is, sell me on how good yours is. Needless to say, we bought the MedTec.

I hope any salespeople reading these forums can take this to heart.

The firehouse in question IS in my neck of the woods. I was at work when the event occurred and slept right through it.There was damage to the Park Forest station along with some homes. There also was damage to homes in Matteson and Olympia Fields. I live in the general vicinity of all these towns. Did you catch the T.V. footage? They were filming a fire when the sky lit up. Wild stuff. I cant believe we didnt get any calls on it.

I guess we will need to take a meteorite spotting class.
Yeah, Jay; you've just been waiting for this thread to get back on track.
Oh and that was a nice picture you posted over at the other site. Don't confuse it with a Mercury Comet! Now that I think about it, I believe they also made a Mercury Meteor. I'll stop now.
