Has anyone attended the Illinois Fire Service Institute at the U of I? I've been thinking about attending the Fire Academy they offer and wanted to hear what some of you guys and gals think of the place.
Thanks

IFSI has some of the best instructors I have encountered as a student. I have not attended regular classes down there, just Fire College. If you cannot learn at least 6 things that weekend that could save your life someday, then you shouldn't be a firefighter.
Use the resource whenever you have a chance.

Director Jaehne has made the IFSI one of, if not THE best fire training facilities in the country. The instructors are experienced firefighters and excellent teachers. You won't go wrong. Of course, being from Illinois, I am a little prejudiced.

I assume you mean the Firefighter 2 Academy. I attended and graduated in Fall 02. I went in with just enough knowledge and experience to make me dangerous. I came out with an extremely solid knowledge of firefighting. It was the toughest 6 weeks of my life, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. I do not think you will find a better training academy in the country. The instructors are top notch, and the training you get gives you the confidence to do your job well. We did have 5 or 6 volunteers in my class, and they all did extremely well. The academy has a cost of 2000 dollars, but it is worth it. The spring class is just finishing its second week, the fall academy should start the first part of sept. Go for it, you will not regret it. Any questins, email me. medic79@maplecity.com

I have been to fire college and it was well done, I'm sure the FF2 academy is equally good.

I've attended many classes at IFSI,but not their FFII academy, and have never been disappointed. Great group of instructors. Very knowledgeable and helpful.
