Offer to come train

The Andalusia/Edgington Fire Department, Andalusia, Illinois, would like to extend an invitation to the fire departments in Rock Island, Mercer, and Henry Counties in Illinois, to participate in a great training opportunity. We will be conducting multi-company basic training drills in Edgington, Illinois in the old elementary school, slated for demolition this summer. Training dates are:

Sunday March 9 -- 10am - 4pm
- SCBA, Hose, Ladders, Fire Behavior, Ventilation, Tool operation, Hose handling

Sunday March 23 -- 10am - 4pm
- Suppression Techniques, Vent-Enter-Search, Forcible Entry, Making Entry, Search & Rescue

Sunday March 30 -- 8am - 4pm
- Multi-Company Evolutions, Incident Management/Command and Control

The Andalusia and Edgington Fire Department will be hosting this training. Departments are encouraged to contact the training organizer Lee Kaiser at kaiserla@kjww.com if you are interested in coming with at least 4 members of your own department. I will pass the information to my fire department. Is this training in conjunction with Mississippi Valley Firefighters Association or are your departments putting it on? Can you tell me who's instructing? IFSI or others? Just curious. I know alot of those guys.

You guys are fortunate. We had something similar down here when the county bought a car dealership, bowling alley and store/apartment and let the county depts. have it before they demolished it. IFSI sent down 5 instructors for the weekend and we had a blast. Only time I ever got to break one of those big plate glass windows. We cut holes in the roof, smoked up the apartment, broke down doors and anything else fire related. It was a training opportunity we won't get again. Half a city block that we just about tore down without a bulldozer. I wish it was down South so I could send a bunch of our new people.

Andalusia has talked to Mississippi Valley about the training and they are interested, but they would like to use the school for a Fall fire school, but the timetable for demolition just won't allow that. The other problem is that Mississippi Valley won't have a meeting until March and that will be too late, so we are trying to contact the area departments via letter this week.

Instructors for this are coming from Davenport Fire (hopefully). I might still try to contact IFSI for an instructor through the Cornerstone program. I am trying to get stokers from the Rock Island Fire department. Otherwise we will be putting on the training ourselves (to the best of our abilities). Volunteers for instructors for certain topics are certainly welcome though.
