Coming to Chicago What To Do?

Hello All,

I will be traveling to Chicago for a week in March. I will have evenings and Friday all day available to do the tourist stuff. Couple of questions

1. What are the must see things in Chicago (Sears Tower and Navy Pier)?

2. What firehouse should I visit and is there a fire musuem?

3. Any local FF bars?

My hotel is actually out near O'Hare so I am interested n stuff down that way for after work entertainment.

Anyway if you are from the area or have visited let me know your favorites.

My all time favorite place in Chicago has got to be the Museum of Science and Industry. It's quite a place. Can't help you on the bars or firehouses, though.

There are alot of great things to do in Chicago. If you are staying near O'Hare, you can ride the EL downtown instead of driving. of course there are plenty of open parking lots downtown at night. They just cost $$$. I hate to recommend one place over the other in regards to drinking/dining. The wonderful thing about the city is that within a few square miles you can eat authentic cuisine from Greektown,Chinatown, Pilsen which is Mexican, Taylor Street which is "Little Italy". This is not counting all the great places downtown for steaks, seafood, or any other thing you want. Nightlife is abundant. Live music, theatre, museums, skyscrapers and shopping to name a few things. There is too much to list here, but keep surfin the web and asking around. A nice firehouse to visit is Engine 13, Squad 1 in the 300 block of North Columbus. They are nice guys over there. Have a great time in a great city.

Don't forget the Chicago Fire Academy. It is built on the actual site of Mrs. O'Leary's barn where the great Chicago fire started. They have a plaque inside where the barn actually stood and a very impressive flame sculpture on the exterior.

hey thanxs for the info...
i decided to bring my little sister along and she is only 19 so i wont be able to be visiting any bars :(
ill be staying in elk grove village at my friends house..crappy thing is im driving down there and my car gets REALLY bad gas milage...

how would i be able to take a quick tour of the FDs? can someone here hook me up? :)

Thanks to the rest of the guys that replied...I should have come in a day early for the St Patty's parade o'well should be some green beer to be found around 4:30 on Sunday when I land....cant stand O'Hare though what a zoo.

This one is a "must see". Over at Johnson Sauk Trail Park, they have a ROUND barn. Honest; it is completely round. Rumor has it that the old farmer went crazy trying to find a corner to pee in! Ok; that part I made up, but the barn is round. It's on the scenic drive, MIKEY. One you don't want to miss if you come out here. I'll start putting an itinerary together. I think that you will be pleased.
