Does your department have an SOG/SOP for response to a reported structure fire and/or automatic fire alarm?

Specifically, what I’m looking for is: If, for example, you have 2 engines and a heavy rescue squad or truck responding on the first alarm, does your SOG assign tasks such as first due engine will be attack (and/or rescue if needed), second due will take a hydrant and pull a backup line, squad/truck will do ventilation and search, etc. or is everything left up to the IC to assign?

Is it too inflexible to assign fireground tasks by SOG or does it make it easier if everybody knows what their job will be before leaving the firehouse?

Also, If you can, please post your SOG here or e-mail it to me by clicking on my profile.

Thanks

Our SOG is all units respond and put out the fire! :D

Sorry, had to do it.

Anyhow, our first two engines will hit hydrants for structure fires, the rest of the response will be directed by IC. First engine will do attack, second engine will vent/search. If there is reported entrapment, the first engine will skip hydrant and go straight to scene for search/rescue and second engine will do attack.

I was assigned the task of updating our SOG's so right now I have an old copy of it if you want it.

For structure fire response, the first in engine will drop at a hydrant unless it is known a second engine is on the way. If a second engine is on the way then the first due will do suppression and rescue if needed and the second in will lay the supply line. Usually there is a second engine responding but during the day sometimes personnel can be thin. If that happens we usually call mutual aid. Also during the winter months, the tanker is second out because of the possibility of catching a frozen hydrant.

Keep your head down and your powder dry.
