hey guys, my high school has been approved for a Navy Junior ROTC program to start up next year. Sign ups are when we pick our classes for next year since its a class that involves all kinds of stuff. I'm thinking of signing up for it (about 90% for, a little unsure though)

Question to you, has anyone here ever been in a Navy JROTC? If so, what was it like for you?

I never did the JROTC thing myself. It was not offered at the time I was in school. I did join the Navy after school and found it to be the best thing I ever did. I would highly recommend that you take at least one year of it just to get the self discipline out of it. It will teach you so much more than just Navy stuff.

Went through in the late 60's Early 70s.
Wound up as a Warrant Officer helo pilot in the Army - Go figure!
Gave me a leg-up as I hit Basic Training as a E-3 versus an E-nobody.
Also made Warrant Officer Candidate School a BIT easier to handle as I had more than the average 8-24 weeks of military training my colleagues had.
We had the most awsome CO and Master Chief and our instructors. The CO was a WW2 veteran who had commanded everything from PT Boats to an Oiler. The MCPO was a Radioman and we spoke the same language (I have been a Ham Radio Operator since I was 12).
All in all, Go for it! It's like O2 in the field...Couldn't hurt and really could help.

Keep in touch. Let me know how things are going!

Never, Never Forget 9/11/01 and our Fallen Comrades!

I'd say go for it. Can't hurt, and if you're looking for military life later on in the future, it'll probably help. Doesn't look bad on college apps either :). If you do decide to join, however, please promise me that you'll take it seriously and not just as a class to get you out of phys ed. I've seen many good JROTC students, but more who don't give a care, wear their uniforms improperly, disrespect their officers, and just plain look bad. All the way, or no way at all. Though I'm not "J-Rotc nazi", I do belong to an organization that closely resembles it, just on the AF side of things. You'll have fun and learn some practical leadership skills if you stick with it and try to learn.
