Hey eng2, one of the guys at my house is from Hobart. He talks about home alot, it must be something up their. If all you guys fight fire the way he does you have no trouble beating them up. Be safe.
P.S. He says this sure beats working in the mills. What ever that means.

I'm not sure if I know who he is. I've been on the job 10 years here.
I know exactly what he's talking about with the mills. I only worked part time @ USX and I can say I'm happy I'm not anymore!
I see you guys are from Muncie. By any chance does your buddy have a brother that just moved back to Hobart?

I believe he does. I think he just moved back from Cali. Does that ring a bell? He has already turned in or I would as him. We were talking about your dept. tonight and he wondered if you were still requiring applicants to be medics? It sounds like you know who I am talking about. Great guy!! He is assigned to our 100' tiller. He told me he has some friends that work with you, maybe I will run up with him some time.

Interesting. We are having a major confict within our Civil Service Fire Commission. They are a board of 3 members 1 appointed by the mayor, 1 by the FFs and 1 selected by both. The Mayors appointee turned down the reappointment of the 3rd guy because he ran against the mayor last year. The Commission interviewed a guy last week claiming to be a brother of a Muncie firefighter. He said he grew up in Hobart and just moved back into town and was interested in getting involved with the city.
We have had nothing but problems with this mayor. No raise in 3 years, no recognition, no contract, below minimum staffing (2 per rig!), and just a slew of others.
The problem that came up this guy is he claimed to be 'friends' with the mayor and she suggested he try to the fire commission spot. I don't know his name. I'll ask our guy on the commission when I talk to him. This is the only protection we have against city hall right now. I'm not accusing this guy of anything, but if the mayor is involved it sounds suspicious. If he is telling the truth about his brother on the job with you maybe he can give him soiund advice should he be selected.
Hobart is a very weird place. You would'nt believe the stuff that goes on here. Maybe thats why we have veteran firefighters defection to other departments.
If I find out the guys name I'll let ya know.

The man you speak of is Jack, he goes by Chip. He is my co-workers brother, back from 17 years in Cali. I have met him, and spoken with him several times. Seems like a good guy. Mark, the guy I work with says you guys should get with Chip and have a little sit down. Sorry to hear of your problems with the Mayor. One of our Captains ran against our current Mayor and lost last year, so we can feel for you.

MFD,
Thanks for the info. I talked to our guy on the commission and it sounds like the same person you are talking about. I'm not sure who the commission is going to pick. But I'll let our guy know we might have an ally in the running.
They are running out of time before it goes to a judge and he gets to pick whoever he wants.
stay safe

I would think you would have an ally in Chip. Mark told me they talked this week about your staffing levels. Mark told him you guys running two on a rig was criminal. We discussed this at the station as well. Makes us feel blessed, we have at least three to a pump.(this time of year sometimes they all have four), four on the Squads (one north one south), two on the snorkle, and three on the ladder. On the south side of town where I work we get a squad, a pump, the rescue(3 men) and the ladder for a residential fire. The BC will respond if we lay lines. So we get at least 13 on a first alarm, and still feel short handed at times. You guys stay safe and if we can do anything to help let us know.
