I guess this is a place to discuss issues of firefighting as they pertain to CT or just plain ol' issues that deal with CT.
Time for all the members of New England's best state to check in...

Greetings from Willington, CT
Current events: Waiting for delivery of CAFS rescue pumper in January. STILL waiting for FEMA grant (got the 5 questions 2 weeks ago).
I'm surprised DAL and Trumbull Center's rep haven't popped up yet.
Adze: Nice new truck you have.

Thanks.
It's actually a three-department grant, but someone's name had to be on the application.
The grant is for Confined Space & Trench Rescue training & equipment for Mortlake, Danielson, and Dayville.
Three more or less identically equipped Rescue Trailers will be purchased, one being located at each department. Additionally Mortlake will host a Sheeting & Shoring trailer.
If there is an incident, all three departments will respond. The first trailer will start the intial assesment & stabilization, with the other two trailers and the S&S trailer providing additional equipment & support.
It'll take our region from having rudimentary capabilities (we have this, they have that, does anyone know the lumber guy's home phone number?) to having a solid operational level system.

Congratulation to Dal & Co. on the FEMA grant. Aim for the stars and you might just get it. We simply asked for $30,000 for air cylinders and pass alarms and have yet to get anything (I'm trying real hard not to whine).
Does any know what the other Connecticut FEMA grants awardees are getting?

Out of QV land:
Eastford is getting a GEMS radio-pass system.
Canterbury is using theirs for new SCBA & turnout gear.
Don't know on Community & Jewett City (AA Young).
Of course, Mortlake, Dayville, & Danielson with the above mentioned tech rescue equipment.
The only other one I know is Norwich, who is buying a forestry truck.

where's that?? :) :)
Somewhere east of TN Land (And I don't mean Tennessee)...
Speaking of more TN news...East Windsor Ambulance is *finally* going to be switching over to TN when they leave their current dispatch of EWPD.
This will improve the quality of dispatch for EWAA and help out both the Broad Brook and Warehouse Point Fire Departments.

So 104's driver was only following IC's orders. OK. So if the IC said, "Go in and put that fully involved fire out with a water can and no air pack" you would do it?
The driver should be experienced enough to make the final decision about placement. The IC has a million things running through his mind and may not have thought about the soft ground. The driver should have let the IC know that putting the truck in the front lawm may not be the best option.
I know it is hard, but we need to think before we act.

ya know we were all joking about it and you have to be so serious
tho you are right- we also need to listen to the i c- and the driver was experienced

Hey, no cobwebs in Trumbull's hose after today. Sheesh. A real suburban ghetto up there. I hurried into work a little early, expecting to go next on mutual aid with an engine and truck task force! LOL! Yous guys better 'trow some more money into pub ed and fire prevention. A regular ripper city up there, hose in the street and sticks silhouetted against a flaming sky.

Actually I was there to watch Richie Knecht crib up the front wheels, put it in reverse, and floor it hoping not to get stuck again (i thought he was going to back it up into another lawn). So I wouldnt give the credit to TC. But it was a bonehead move by the IC. I didnt care much... I got to fight another fire before I left and I got my ugly mug in the Trumbull times.
Now that I think of it, I was also there when 202 went into the sinkhole at Stop and Shop. That was worse than 104. Wish I had a pic.
