This past Sunday, a lady stopped by my station with a peach cobbler. She just wanted to say thank you again for helping her husband. A week prior, his blood sugar bottomed out and he became very confused & upset. Two township cops and my partner and I on the squad responded. We calmed him down and I started a line and gave him D50. Within a minute, he was his normal self. It wasn't a hard call, either medically or interpersonally, but it was very important to them.
Later the night of the call, he and his wife called & thanked both the police and us. Then, a week later she brought us a wonderful dessert.
It's wonderful - one thank you like this makes it all worth while. These are the people who are the finest.
With all of the stupid, drunk, hostile, and ungrateful people out there, or the good ones who have such sad outcomes, it's easy to forget how we touch folks' lives. I want to share this story and hope it brings to mind other times folks thanked you. Those memories keep us going in the bad times.
