Could someone from Tenn...let us know more about the facility?
(Shelbyville-AP) -- Tennessee's new fire training academy
celebrated its official grand opening today in rural Bedford County
near Shelbyville.
Governor Sundquist cut a ceremonial ribbon as fireworks exploded
overhead at the new Tennessee Fire Service and Code Enforcement
Academy.
Hundreds of firefighters gave Sundquist a standing ovation in
recognition of his work to help open the academy.
The 27 (m) million dollar project sits on 330 acres.
It's a spread of classrooms, laboratories and even a six-story
tower where computers simulate arsons and other types of fires.
The academy was set to open a year ago to train both
firefighters and building inspectors. But a state budget shortfall
kept it closed.
A new tax on coin-operated amusement devices is expected to
generate about three and a half (m) million dollars a year for the
academy.
