Question for FDNY guys about an SOP

I had a question about the procedure to stretch the third line up the fire escape (amongst other locations). Reading and thinking about how it would work, it seems there is a good probability for a mexican standoff. when your third line is coming in the back side of the fire like that or on the flank, is it your experience, do the lines start pushing fire on each other. Have u seen that prob? how is it fixed?

The third line off a fire escape would go to the floor below and then up the interior stairway.

and its probably going to the floor above, or adjoining apt. Two lines are already up the interior stairs (main reason to stretch up the fire escape if there are already lines inside), so I doubt they'd be going to the same place anyway.
