I am just wondering if anyone has any good part time job or business ideas for firefighters who work 24/48.

Just about anything! On my FD we have guys who have specialized jobs with the department (arson investigation, juvenile firesetters, Public education) that are done by and large on an OT basis. Others do carpentry, electrical, plumbing, ceramic tile, auto body, auto detailing, landscaping, bartending, work at the State Fire Academy, work for a funeral director, supermarket, building maintenance, as I said, just about anything!

Just about anything is right.
We have a few full-time firefighters that work part-time at the air ambulance service I work for. Many of the full-time FF/Paramedic can pull all the extra shifts they want at EMS-only agencies. Also know a few that teach on their days off for OSU Fire Service Training. Seems like a pretty good deal.

I knew a few that drove oil trucks. Just a thought, but if you get together with someone on an opposite shift, you might be able to work out a job-sharing arrangement somewhere.

Here are some ideas-
Drive for an airport shuttle service (they are flexible),
deliver soda/beer, security, highway pilot car service,
highway flagger/sign person, Brinks/Armored armored car
money carrier, airport security, ambulance service,
computer repair...lots to do, open the phone book.
Also, go to www.emove.com They are connected with Uhaul
and looking for "service providers" That is people to
pack and load, drive, paint, etc people who are moving.
Good luck...

Not to start any union issues, but...
Around the Houston area, part-time firefighter jobs are really popular. Most are day jobs with volunteer departments, but a few are 24/7.
