Hi all,

Some of you I know, and some of you I don't know. I would appreciate it if you would please say hi, tell me a little something about your explorer/Jr post (IF you do not currently have a post that is OK), how long you have been and explorer, blah, blah, blah. For those of you that are no longer explorer's, please tell me (and everyone else) a little about your station, and if you are currently taking any classes. Maybe what you feel is the most important thing you learned as an explorer/Jr. Basically whatever you may feel is relevent.

Thanks in advance ;)

Tempie

I guess ill go first.

My post is in mass somewhere.
Im Chief of that post.
We got 2 other members.
We dont go on runs.
We do drills and classroom stuff.
Were fairly new and were getting to more stuff now that we got the BSA insurance.
Some of our highlights this year have been the Harbor Master fire boat exercise- were we simulate a boat fire. The Logan International airport trip were we get to ride around in there crash trucks and go on the fireboat and learn about ARFF. And the AFFF drill done with another explorer post.

Take care

I think that is the case for a couple of you. Sorry I should have phrased things a little differently. I'll edit my original to be more fitting.

The Explorer post I’m at is located in central CA
We have 12 Explorers
We get to go on all calls
We do drills, and sometimes we go to a training burn with the PCFs
The post is about 3 years old

Hopefully I wont be a Explorer for to much longer because I am now old enough to become a Paid Call Firefighter, but still I am willing to get guidance in any form.:)

Well it is nice to see that some of our explorer's have stopped in to say hi. I will be working on who you will be paired up with as a mentor over the next couple of days. For the rest that haven't it is going to be pretty tough for me to hook you up with a mentor until you do.

I would appreciate it if you would please say hi, tell me a little something about your explorer/Jr post, how long you have been and explorer...

I have been a Junior for about a year, located in north-central West Virginia. I am the first and only junior in my department, and am also a firehouse brat (grandpa is in the department and my dad was when I was little). Our SOP's allow juniors to do basically everything but operations in the hot zone. Also, we can't respond to calls on apparatus that are running w/ lights/sirens. My department is COMPLETELY VOLUNTEER and kinda rural. Hmmm...I usually talk a lot, but strangely I can't think of anything else to say.

I am in a group thats in the more genuine part of New York which upstate.

Located in Randolph, NY we have about 13 members. The program has been charted for over 25 years but did not start out with the BSA. Up until like last year membership was on a crash course and one mnoth we had 2 meetings. Since then membership has been on the rise and now we have about 13 members and another 2 joining next months meeting. We are through the BSA, however I am going to go out on a limb and say that we are under company insurance, not sure but I am pretty safe to say, this enables us to do more. I have been a junior for almost 3 years, but now I am called limited duty. I probably missed a lot but I have a injured rotary cup for my right shoulder and it hurts unimaginably. later

A bit about me:

20 years as a volunteer firefighter/emergency medical technician, including 11 as an officer (Lt, capt., asst. chief) on 4 different departments in south-west Ohio. I've run in suburban & semi-rural areas. I've been a state certified fire and EMS instructor for about 8 years. I'm also a fire inspector and have done a bit of arson investigation. I currently run both as a volunteer ff/medic and a part-time ff/medic.

My volunteer department has a cadet program with about 5-6 members. They have to be at least 14 and tend to be (but don't have to be) kids of current members. They train separately and occasionally with us. They can ride the apparatus on runs, but are limited to non-hazardous activities - i.e. no interior firefighting, no vehicle extrication, etc.

My "mentoree" is on a volunteer department in West Virginia.

If anyone ever has any questions, please feel free to PM me.
