UPDATE:

I got a phone call this morning at 1 AM from 27. They will not be arriving in my fair city until late in the afternoon, instead of the previously thought "some where between 6 - 9 am". Which is good for me cause I was really dreading the wake up call :)

Their report may be late, due to circumstances beyond 27's control. ;)

This is just a short note to say that we all arrived safe and sound... I will make a full report before the end of the weekend. Things have been more than just a little hectic this past few days.

Well, this is almost a week late, however WE ARE BACK!!!!!

27 arrived at my "old" house last Saturday which was the 24 of August, and I promptly put him to work hehehe. Lots of stupid stuff that had to be taken care of, the dumb uhaul guy quoted me the wrong size truck so we ended up having to leave a few things behind, but that was ok. It was actually rather comical the amount of stuff that we did manage to jam into that truck, *special thanks to 26 for helping us unload*, picture a 17 ft truck BULGING at the sides hehehe. We had planned on driving straight through all night Sunday night, but because we left later than we had planned we ended up spending the night in Canmore. Monday morning we started out bright and early, but had several "stops" along the way, travelling with 3 kids and someone who was having "mild" panic attacks when we were approx 10,000 ft up *hyperventilating* OK, OK it was me teeheehee, 27 figured out what was going on when he was no longer getting a response from me on the two way, so he radioed me that we were pulling over at the next gas station. So we stopped and took a small breather, and then continued on our way. I just have few issues when I can look toward the passenger side of my truck and see nothing but a DROP .......... WAY FAR DOWN :eek: :eek: Personally I just blame the altitude for my "light headedness and rapid breathing" :rolleyes: but somehow I don't think 27 was buying that LMAO. The drive itself was beautiful, BC truly is God's country, very VERY gorgeous scenery. The roads sometimes left a little to be desired though, I think 27 and my son are still "rocking and rolling" due to the motions the truck would go through after hitting bumps. :D We ended up having to call Tempie to offer our regrets that we couldn't have coffee *although at that point a good stiff whiskey was on my mind :rolleyes: * because we weren't even sure we were going to make the last ferry to Victoria, I don't think Tempie knows just how very close she came to having 5 houseguests on Monday night LOL. We made the last ferry by the skin of our teeth, 27 says by rights we shouldn't have made it, but make it we did. Quite frankly I didn't know fully loaded uhauls could go that fast :rolleyes: So once on the ferry we ate a VERY late supper and enjoyed the ride, well the kids enjoyed the ride, 27 and I were fighting to stay awake. We disembarked the ferry approx an hour and a half after getting on and now I'm most happy to report that WE ARE HOME!!!!

Just a couple of last things, I highly recommend the use of two way radios to anyone who is ever making a long trip with two vehicles, no airtime charges and the range was awesome. 27, thank you so much for being as understanding as you are, and for knowing when I was on the verge of MASSIVE panic LOL, hence why I'm an avid supporter of the two way radios, he kept talking to me and making me laugh all the way home.

I attended my first practice last night, it was GREAT and I had a blast. However, my gear is HUUUUUUUUUUUGE ........... 26 assures me that he will order me some to fit LOL. But really I don't care, I'm doing what I have dreamed of doing for a long time!!!!! So I am now known as Rookie FireFighter Malahat 23 hehehehe. Thanks all for listening to my ramble, and I'm sure 27 will offer his "version" soon enough. :D

Oh, and thank you all for your well wishes !! :)

Well actually there isn't much to add to Pfire's report. We arrived safe and sound.... and yes a Uhaul does "Haul" when it has too... I won't go into just how fast we travelled down #10 Highway enroute to the ferry, but we did arrive in time to drive straight onboard and by the time we made it to the passenger decks, we had already slipped from the terminal. *Still shaking my head on how we made that damn thing - shoulda missed it by about 3 minutes*. (rolleyes)

As for the *overview* outlook from the side of the mountain... well I guess I am just one of the *Hillfolk* cuz to me it was kinda coooollll, but that's all a matter of perspective.

However some advice to anyone who wishes to rent a Uhaul:

1) make sure that no matter what size the dealer suggests, go one bigger in trucks;

2) no matter what kind of a hurry you might be in to get where you are going, (and the trucks are new enough - they will do 70mph no problem... ;) *oops did I say that out loud?*) take care to the road conditions. I encountered some small ripples in the pavement that caused the truck to rock side to side pretty badly and there were at least two occasions when I wasn't sure when or if it was going to stop without laying itself on it's side. They don't do that when empty but with the extra weight onboard, they are extremely top heavy.

All that is left now is the unpacking :(

Pfire's first practice in the hall went very well. She got put into gear and thrown onto a truck (hmm coincidence it was mine in company with 26??? - You be the judge). Multi scenario night, with MVA rollover, kids run down by drunk driver, assault incident and an ampuation by chainsaw. In all a good night's worth of training. Hats off to the Simulation crew for doing the dress up on the *Patients*. And of course to FF26 for dreaming up the entire event. :)

Well that's about all there is to report on... Several shots of whiskey and more than a pint or two of Guinness to soothe parched throats and things are almost back to normal once again.

Hey guys

Glad you are home safe and sound. Sorry I wasn't home when you called. Probably a good thing cause I'm sure I would have ended up waiting somewhere for you only to realize that you were getting on the last ferry. ;)

Watch out for those chain saw amputee's... they bleed A LOT :eek:
