New Jersey's own Bruce Springsteen (where else on earth could this guy be from?) has released a new CD entitled "The Rising". The title track is haunting salute to fire fighters, inspired by 9/11. Look at these lyrics.

Can't see nothing in front of me
Can't see nothing coming up behind
I make my way through this darkness
I can't feel nothing but this chain that binds me
Lost track of how far I've gone
How far I've gone, how high I've climbed
On my back is a 60 pound stone
On my shoulder a half mile of line

Left the house this morning
Bells ringing filled the air
I was wearin' the cross of my calling
On wheels of fire I came rollin' down here

There's spirits above and behind me
Faces gone black
Eyes burning bright
May their precious blood bind me
May I feel your blood mix with mine
A dream of life comes to me
Like a catfish dancin' on the end of my line

Come on up for the rising
Come on up, lay your hands in mine
Come on up for the calling
Come on up for the rising tonight

This guy is no Mutt. You guys ought to adopt him as the first honorary Jake

Look for a live preformance of this song and others by The Boss on NBC's Today Show from Asbury Park, NJ on July 30, 2002.

Bruce is definitely "THE BOSS"

He is the man!!!

I remember seeing him when he was with a group called the Castilles, and saw him play at the Coffee House in Red Bank just about every Friday night.

So I'm an oldie.

Every year the International Association of Fire Fighters puts out a video tribute to North American Fire Fighters. It is usually accompanied by music from a different celebrity every year.

A few months ago IAFF Local 384 (Asbury Park) was asked by the IAFF and Professional Firefighters Association of New Jersey if we could put them in contact with the Boss's management. The fact that the City of Asbury Park and the Asbury Park Fire Dept. has been among the many organizations, and people who have benefited from the enormous generosity of Bruce Springsteen and Company, we jumped at the chance to do our small part.

It is rumored that Bruce's music will in some way be involved in this years video tribute which will be unveiled at the IAFF convention in Las Vegas this August.

My wife is one of Springsteen's biggest fans (I am too, by default, although I liked his earlier stuff better) and so I'm sure we'll get a copy somewhere. She's pretty resourceful.

I saw him in concert at Orlando and two nights in Denver on his last tour (like I said, she's a BIG fan) and I have to say, he's outstanding, and since he's behind us, to me, he's Da Man. Or in this case, Da Boss.

Don't push it, George.

My favorite line about NJ had to be from "Miss Congeniality", when Sandra Bullock's character says, "You know why it says 'The Garden State' on the New Jersey license plate? Because 'The Oil and Petrochemical State' wouldn't fit..."

Truck6, exactly how many times have you been in NJ?

And of all of those times, how many of them were spent anywhere outside a ten mile radius of Newark or Camden?

I will evaluate your post above based on your answers.

I like Bruce Springsteen's music minus "41 Shots" which pretty much trashed the NYPD..I just heard the song on the radio today. Sounds pretty good.

If you like the BOSS...you'll need to stay tuned. He's gonna be live on "Today"...on NBC. :D
----------------------------------------------------------------
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will be
live from Asbury Park when they perform on the "Today" show next
month. :D
The Asbury Park Press of Neptune reports today that the location
for the July 30th show hasn't been disclosed. It'll coincide with
the release of "The Rising," the first new album from The Boss
and his band since 1984's "Born in the U-S-A."
N-B-C and city officials won't comment at length about the show.
But the report says the network will make a formal announcement
about the show sometime today.
Shore Fire Media, Springsteen's publicist, couldn't be reached
for comment on the report.

I appreciate humor. And I am by no means the Tourism Director for NJ. The hazardous waste humor that is directed towards NJ is usually perpetuated by people who think that the NJ Turnpike is the only road in NJ. Get off the beaten path and it is really a beautiful state.

I didn't hang out much in Asbury. Most of my 1970's brain cells were lost on the streets of Wildwood and Seaside.

I think I hit the button!

Peace, George, peace! I grew up in Philly and spent my summers in Ocean City, Margate, AC, Brigantine, Sea Isle City and occasionally a trip to the Cape. I am well aware of the beautiful Pine Barrens and the Water Gap. It was just humor! I mean it! Stop beating me, I submit, I submit!

We okay now?

George, let the people that search out those areas be rewarded;)

I might have some brain cells mingling with yours under a boardwalk or two........:D

You call that a beating? I wasn't even mad yet.

We okay now?

I guess.

Asbury Park really went sour during the late 60's and early 70's. They started closing down arcades and it just wasn't THE place to go anymore. Like George...I headed to Seaside and Wildwood...which had Asbury beat, when it came to hotels, arcades, rides, shops, food, boardwalk and fine lookin' women.

And who could ever forget..."WATCH THE TRAM CAR PLEASE!" ;) :D

Have our own little boardwalk and get to deal with all the "fun and games" it brings to us each summer. Some day, I want to steal that d##n tram and drive it into the inlet! Every year, during the NJ convention, I see at least 3 people hit by that stupid thing.

I just listened to it. The song is an ok song...but...nothing will compare with the songs related to 09-11 by:

Alan Jackson
Toby Keith
Charlie Daniels

In fact....I suggested to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (after contacting his fan club) that they approach ALAN JACKSON about doing a live performance of "Where were you......" or at least a satelite link during the Memorial Service this year in D.C.
