View Full Version : The Crusty Bunch

Here goes my feeble attempt:
To the tune of the Brady Bunch
The Crusty Bunch
Here's a story, Of a good jake,
Who was riding a very lovely engine.
All his crew had leather helmets, Like their Captain,
The youngest one's a probie.
Here's a story, Of an online forum,
Which was read by many jakes on their own.
They were crusty men, Wearing all leathers,
but they were all alone.
Till the one day when the captain joined us online
and they knew it was much more than a hunch,
That this group would somehow form an Association.
That's the way we all became The Crusty Bunch,
The Crusty Bunch, The Crusty Bunch.
That's the way we became The Crusty Bunch.

BMI will also handle assigned seating for any of the IACOJ meetings. (With a crowd like this, somebody has to.) Adze, 26 and Temptaker will be separated by 2 seats or placed in another room.
Seriously, just kidding. Great job Adze......what happened, did ya have a day off?
With all this talent, maybe we should make a record for fundraising...

I'm having a Maplewood flashback...Sing this to the tune of "Gilligan's Island".
"Crusty Old Jakes"
Just log right on and you'll see a thread
A thread full of crusty jakes
There's lots of crusty guys out there
But these guys take the cake.
The Cap was the might Gonzo man
Who always gave three cents
And with him was his old pal Adze,
Whose thoughts are always bent.
His thoughts always bent.
The mutts all started getting rough
The crusty jakes were tossed
If not for the wisdom of JTL,
They surely would be lost.
They surely would be lost.
The jakes hid out on the threads of this
Of Firehouse.com
With Captain G...and Motown too
The superchef, and NJ...
Truck sixty-six, and please don't forget that Steamer fits...
Here with crusty old jakes!

Speaking of Canadians...
I am taking classes at the June Fire School at the CT Fire Academy...well, I had Canadians in my class from British Columbia yesterday. They've been here for the last 10 weeks (must have gone to the recruit class) and they decided to stay another week to take June Fire School classes. I know the chick was from Kamloops (or at least that is what her shirt said)...don't know about the rest of them.

Ok, its my first attempt......
Sung to the tune of Friends in Low Places by Garth Brooks
by the Candian trio of 27, 26 and Temptaker (guys don't let me down)
Blame it all the weather
we all wore our leathers
And chased away the mutts
The one’s with the crust
our showing a must
we kicked them all in their butts
And we saw the surprise
And the fear in their eyes
When 26 took out his black grain
And we snapped at you
Said mutts are all through
and we’ll never see you again
'Cause we know jakes from all places
The guinness flows free
And the rum makes us feel Okay.
We’ll move a big line like a horse at the races,
so step aside we’ve covered all bases
’cause we know jakes from all places

Sorry Adze didn't see this the first time I read the thread. Nope would have no problem being teamed up with a New Englandah. :) I know it is table football, but in the event the Guinnes starts to flow, and we opt for shirts or skins, I think being the only woman on the team I should be a shirt. Otherwise we (my team) might have an unfair "distraction" advantage. :)

Anyone remember "26's bar and grill" from fh.com chat?
We could hold the meeting there.......
The food is pretty good... all BBQ'd (superchef can help me in the back...;) ) The Guinness truck does tanker runs for us.... 3300 gallons every 15 minutes makes sure we never run out  . There is a stage.... errr  , I mean a meeting platform... complete with a highly polished brass fire poll (ok, a couple of them).... There are the hot tubs, and the hide-a-beds, I mean couches .... and the best thing is, the entire place is made of stainless steal and the floors have a slight dip to the centre where there is a drain... when the meeting is over we just have to pull an few 2 1/2s, hook up an inductor into some soap, or A class foam, and wash the thing out.... Although, we will have to make sure the top is down to cover the mud pit, last time we ended up washing it all away :(
Ahhh, the good ol' bar and grill.... I think I can have her back up and in running shape for the meeting.

You actually take a hot tub camping? Sure beats the two person tent we've been using. This I've got to see.:D
Temptaker
06-13-2002, 02:31 PM
:) Yes it's true.
A few years ago a big group (47)emergency personnel decided to go camping together on a lake, where there was nothing but an out-house way up on the hill. This event was known as 'drunk fest'. We built a kitchen, his/her hot water showers, sleeping quarters for the highest ranking man there (and his family)(everyone else slept in tents), and a hot tub. We subsequently took them down when we left.
One of the guys came up with this great idea for the hot tub. The sides and bottom are actaully made out of plywood and they are hinged, so the whole thing folds up. There are bath pillows put on the bottom and sides for seats, and then a pool liner to hold the water. To heat the water we used part of an old house radiator and hooked up hose to either end. One end went into the lake, the radiator went into the fire and the other end of the hose into the hot tub, and it had a gated "Y" to control the water flow. Voila instant hot tub. It was great. Every year there is a bunch of us that go camping or houseboating together, ever year we bring the hot tub.
We used the same hose and rad set up for the showers to, except the showers had 12 Gallon insulated containers we would fill, and you just pulled the cord when you wanted a shower.
The first time we did this, we were on a small island, the locals kept coming over and taking pictures because they couldn't believe what we had done. The wildlife guy (don't know what his actual title is) couldn't believe it when we were leaving. He came and inspected the site where we were twice, once when we had everything up and once when we were leaving. He said if he hadn't seen it with his own eyes he never would have believed anyone had been there.

This year it is houseboating. :) If you are up this way in the middle of August you are welcome to come. We usually through in 150 - 200 bucks for the houseboat, food, and gas. There are usually a number of boats, jetski's and other toys. It's only 5 days, it is 5 days of FUN!!!
The first year we had the hot tub, we actually blew the engine on a jetboat. Met the owner of the boat on the beach, who had been towing tandum skiers, with a bottle of Scotch. Ended up turning the boat into a garbage scow when we left. He is one of those guys who likes "more power" (home improvement show), so after the initial disappointment, he was ok with it. :)
