Has the "scope and practice" of each office been outlined yet??? Just how is the crust factor being measured??? Is it total time on or is it general attitude and disposition???
Also, unless I have missed a self appointment there seems to be NO ONE who has dedicated thier services in forcible entry with special emphasis on "GHETTO STYLE" Allow me to bring my keys to the city. If you can't get in you can't crawl down the hallway. I can also serve as the foul-mouth-heavy-smoker-angry-overly tattooed-IRISH guy if there happens to be a need for one.

All of the nominees seem OK with me, but 'once bitten, twice shy.' I want to see their resumes.

Born in 1953..that makes me old as it is! :D
Lived across the street from a firehouse, was a "firehouse mouse"
Had a fire in our home 12/23/61. Memere (Canadian French for Grandmother) accidentally started the fire..watched in amazement as the firefighters put out said fire.
Parents divorced in 1962, moved to Lowell, Massachusetts.
Lived halfway between Engine 2/Ladder 2 and Engine 7's houses, chased after the sirens on my bike whenever I could.
Got sidetracked for a few years, wanted to be a rock star!
Went to college to study communications, unlike Scooby Few I do have my degree! I am almost there for a 2nd degree in Fire Science.
Took the Massachusetts Firefighter entrance exam in 1980.
Appointed in November 1981.
Obtained my EMT certification in 1982.
Went to the Massachusetts Fire Academy in 1982, still taking courses when I can from some real "crusty old jakes" from the big cities and small towns.
Worked at the Academy for 12 years in the Support Services Division, assisting the Instructors in the Recruit, Industrial and Field Service programs. It was here where I realized that everybody has the same situation...it's the same circus, different clowns!
Promoted to Lieutenant November 1988.
First OT tour as an officer, two 2 alarm fires back to back!
Promoted to Captain August 2001.
Public Fire Education/Public Information Officer since 1997.
Excellent public speaking skills (if you can teach fire safety to elementary school students, you can talk to just about anybody!)
I think my best qualification is...
I love this JOB!

I will also second the nominations previously mentioned, with the addition of SuperChef as Head Cook and Bottle Washer.
Motown88, the foul-mouth-heavy-smoker-angry-overly tattooed guy should be our Door Man at the meetings.
Now all we need is an Organizational Slogan:

Gentlemen...I am truly and greatly honored. As did Captain Gonzo, I submit my resume for oldE6man.
I was born in 1956, in Chillicothe, Ohio, and except for a short period after high school, when I lived in Louisiana. (Loved the food; hated the humidity. Mardi Gras was da bomb!)
I lived 3 doors down from a firehouse, and pretty much grew up there to the consternation of my parents.
Started out as a in Junior in 1971 with a volunteer department where I stayed for 15 years, then took a full time job with Chillicothe FD as a firefighter in 1986 after taking the test 3 different times.
Went to college, but time didn't permit me to finish my degree in Fire Science. I'm 6 credit hours short. (I gotta do that someday)
Ohio certified as firefighter in 1974, EMT in 1972, and paramedic in 1977. Fire Safety Inspector certification in 1976. State Fire Instruictor in 1981. Ohio Fire Investigator in 1982. Ohio Police Firearms Qualification Course in 1999 (Yep, I carry a gun. I know, scary thought, ain't it?!). Certified Arson Canine Handler in 2000 through Maine Criminal Justice Academy.
Went through a weakend floor around 1980, into upturned chairs. The one of the chair legs entered my leg at my ankle, and proceeded 20" toward my knee. Still looking for the SOB that set the fire. Ohio's statute of limitations have expired, but mine hasn't. Several burns through the years, with scars to prove it. I guess that might qualify me for extra-crispy er, I mean crusty.
Attended the third class ever at the Ohio Fire Academy, and have been going back ever since. I've got a drawer full of certificates from them. Trained with some of the finest firefighters I've had the pleasure to work with.
I currently teach with the Ohio Fire Academy on many different courses. I also teach at Ohio University in their new fire program which I helped establish this year.
Promoted to Lieutenant in 1992, Captain in 1996, and Asst. Chief in 2001.
Worked in Code Enforcement Bureau for 2 years, and currently Bureau Chief of the Investigations Bureau.
Captain Gonzo and I share the love of the job. I miss the actual Interior stuff greatly, but my teaching gets me back in the mix with a degree of regularity. I am also ready and willing to go to war when my "family" is unfairly criticized or bashed...whomever does it. Mutts, politicians, so called comediennes...I don't much care.
Once again, I am truly, truly honored!
Hey, MOTOWN88. Care to help me secure the Guinness at the meetings? Imagine...2 Irishmen looking after the Guinness.

No job's too small. I'll even wash the dishes with/for SuperChef.
My resume isn't as distiguished as some and I can't remember all that stuff anyway so I won't put it out there, but here's some stuff about me you should know before electing me to anything...
Born a long time ago in Texas.
Still have all my own teeth.
Graduated a high school in '80.
Wanted to be a groupie for the Bangles and the Gogos, but I refused to wear that '80s look with the skinny tie, cockroach killin' shoes and the moussed hair. But I dug '80s chicks.
Voted for Mondale in '84, Dukakis in '88, Perot in '92, Dole in '96 and Dubya in '00 (jeez, now that I look at it I only picked one winner, no going to the track for me...)
Recovering liberal bonehead.
Volly for a long time, career for not as longa time.
Chicks dig me
Still chasin' the degree
Got some other certs in a drawer somewhere but I don't remember what they are, may be a hazmat in there somewhere...
Never convicted of anything I didn't do.
For some reason, I think Chillicothe is a cool word. Maybe it's because I like chili...
Got a Sam Houston in natural leather
I fish
I enjoy/encourage practical jokes
I'll do almost anything to see if I can spin someone that seems unflappable up. I said almost anything, not anything.
I'll embarass the chief on TV, in print or in the city council meeting if I get asked the right question.
If I find your week spot, I'll force you to make it stronger.
If you have BS opinion I expect you to be able to explain it.
Always in trouble for something I was supposed to do and did, but not like "the man" wanted.
I believe strongly in extreme compliance when it won't hurt anyone or make anything worse, but will make the guy that gave the order look like the true idiot he is.
I refuse to drink lite beer unless it's free and all the stuff I can buy is sold out or I'm broke. If I still drank.
I want to ride a tailboard again because it's fun. But I won't because it's stupid to do it today.
I got one of them fancy holsters to keep hemostats, penlights, scissors, window punch and all that ditch doctor stuff in. It's out in the shed somewhere...
On those thankfully rare days I ride the box, I refuse to wear them pants with all them pockets for hemostats, penlights, scissors, window punch and all that ditch doctor stuff...
I can sit in the back of the meeting room and make snide jokes about what some boot says, the way somebody dresses, has their hair cut or colored or whatever makes them stand out in the crowd, or say "that's BS" and tell people to "sit down and shut up" with the best of them.
When I think it's BS, I throw the BS flag.
And I'll vote "no" and argue against things I want just to confuse or piss people off - a devils advocate if you will...
Anyway, enough about me...

Hear ye, hear ye:
For those about to rock, I salute you. Such a fine assemblage of upper crusties. I will place into the minutes, the text of my resume.
Born in '52. Only boy with seven sisters. Proficient in hop-scotch and jumprope. Smallest kid in my grade school. Got beat up alot-for playing hop-scotch and jumprope. The boys just made fun of me!
Watched alot of the Three Stooges and played in traffic as a kid. Once did the "Curley Shuffle" at a job interview. I got hired.
Had (7) surgeries on the right knee and (4) on the left. Never had a broken bone! Can't wait for joint replacement.
Been a vollie my entire "career". Caught my first ride in 1980. Learned on a 15-minute Scot-air. First firecoat was purchased for $1 from the Rock Island Arsenal. First fire was a brush fire. Managed to pull a roll of snow fence into the fire. First experience with the long pike pole. Noted weakness with hand tools. ISO Class 8 when I started; currently a Class 6. Made TO in '82. Made Chief in '88. Papered at Level II firefighter, hazmat, confined space, trench, vehicle extrication, dot, dot, dot. President of Western Illinois Firefighters Association, member of Illinois Fire Chief's Association, Illinois Association of Fire Protection District and am also a juvey firesetter counselor. Ain't no thang! My day job is as a safety director for a warehousing/logistics company.
With that said, I would like to withdraw my name as VP, nominate Mongo and run for the Midwest region representative. I will bring the cigars.
What do you think? Is it do-able?

Gentleman,
I come before you with the following humble request:
There are a few duties that need to be addressed such as, the drying of the dishes after SuperChef's meals, the cleaning of the crustie station, and the meeting hall after the meetings, the throwing away of the empty and discarded Guinness cans, sweeping the floors and carring the water hammer to all alarms.
While I have no formal resume, I did just graduate from the academy and feel that I would be the best cantidate to fill the Rookie postion.
Thank you for your time

The IACOJ needs to have a Cabinet of advisors...
I hereby nominate Brother Mongo as the Secretary of Tradition and Common Sense and Superchef as the Secretrary of Food, Motown 88 as the Secretary of Guinness and other liquid refreshment. We haven't heard from BucksEngine91 in a while, but since he is an executive in a trucking company (or is that truck company? :D) and has good business sense, I will nominate him for Secretary of the Treasury. Other nominations are in order....
I think this is getting really big, we'll have to set up districts by region. I propose the following regions for the IACOJ
Northeast region
Mid-Atlantic region
Southern region
Southwestern region
Northwestern region
Midwest region
Comments? Questions?
PS: we need someone with a law enforcement background to head the BMI...the Bureau of Mutt Investigation!

President- Capt. Gonzo
Excellent writer and capable of putting others in their place when needed.
V.P.- Mongo
Because of his change from a liberal bonehead (enlightenment). Well deserved credit as a mentor.
Sec.- Chief Reason
A resonable individual and someone with common sense.
Sgt. at Arms- MOTOWN88
Have to pick at least one homey. May not be as old and crusty as the rest of us but working in Detroit will accelerate those qualities.
After reading some of the resumes, It's sad to learn that I'm older than the rest (real bummer) and I guess I'm a little crusty after almost 30 years in this ghetto.
Mongo,

At this time, I wish to humbly submit my application to the I.A.C.O.J.
While not old, or particularly crusty, (30 with 5 years in the fire service) I would love the opportunity to learn from the truly old, crusty Jakes among us. With my relative lack of age & experience, I believe I would be well qualified for any of the following positions:
Cleaning the kitchen, washing dishes for SuperChef; Latrine duty; Washing trucks; rolling and loading hose; filling air bottles; cleaning bunker gear; supplying ice cream; etc.
I would be honored to provide these services in exchange for the opportunity to crawl down the long smoky hallway with the Crusty Old Ones.

Hope I spelled that right......we need someone to enforce the rules of the meeting. My first choice was mongo, but since he has been bumped to Vice Pres.......any other suggestions. Maybe Engine LT.

AS being new to the Firehousehouse Forums it is not my intentions to run for any office, for after reading the resumes composed for these outstanding members I bow and remove my hat to them. I would like to just place my appliction with the membeship committee. After 25 years of paid service I believe I'm crusty enough to be a member of the I.A.C.O.J.besides, i've been compared to the center the center part of a washing machine (agitator) don't think that will make good officer material.

Man, this thing is smokin' hot!
Gonzo: got to set up a meeting. Consider teleconference, perhaps.
We need an embroidered patch for this organization. Who's working on one?
Newsletter; we need a newsletter. Hence, we need an editorial board.
COJs in training. Got to look to the future. Start sending those profiles in.
Background checks. Gonz; could law enforcemutt handle this one?
Website; I think we need our own website. WebTeam; how about it? Too much, you think?
Boys, this is getting big. I haven't been this excited since my junior prom.
Annual banquet; SuperChef-made to order.
Mongo; I slid from liberal Democrat to conservative Republican, due in large part to our conversations. It's called enlightenment.
Let's get this thing done. Lots of work to do.
NO FLAKY CRUST ALLOWED!
Crust is a must.
If we play our cards right, who knows; maybe a movie deal.

Fitness? Who needs it!
How about staying fit the old fashioned way (we are talking about old and crusty) In the good old days we didn't need no fancy, pansy ass machines to stay fit, we didn't need them. We played hockey in the winter, baseball in the summer, rugby in the fall and a sundry of sports in between. Kept us fit and promoted the teamwork missing from the college boys were getting these days.
I think I'd be a good candidate for the tailboard of trustees.

I'd like to throw my hat in the ring, not as an officer, but as a trustee of the group, of the IACOJ. Around here a jake is a roughneck, same meaning, different dialect. I am running on a platform of a roughneck for life, no promotion, no loss of brain cells. I beleive the FD should be based around the boys who put it out, not the gents who tell us how they think it should be. I work with a group of fifteen who I am positive will be the days I will remember as the best of my career. I believe the truck owns the address and should be allowed the door on arrival. I love the engine guys for keeping it cool, the rescue guys for coming to save me, and my brother truckers for being in the $hit with me. You can't make a grab if you are standing outside. The toughest of the toughest died to make my job a lifestyle, and I am willing to give it all to save the life of another.
I hope my pledge is not too politic, elect me trustee, IACOJ.

I know I said before that I wasnt crusty enough to be a part of this seasoned and crusty organization, but, I definitely think I would benefit from listening to the banter that would go on. I will take any job given to me, and play sous chef to superchef when needed. I have also been around long enough to know that respect is earned through action, it is not just granted. SBFire333: IACOJ Secretary/Treasurer Pro Tem Chief Reason here.
You had to ask twice? What planet did you just fall off of? Wisconsin? Just kidding. Really, you don't know about the fastest growing firefighter frateral organization that is sweeping the nation? An organization where it is OK not to have matching socks, a two-day growth and you don't have to be politically correct every minute of every day? An organization where you can re-live the glory days of catchin' a ride on the tailboard and wearin' your helmet backwards to keep the water out of your face? An organization where you can talk about the black snot and phlegm so thick that you could cut it with a steak knife?
Gentlemen: let's educate our good friend from the Dairy state.
Geez; I almost forgot. It stands for the INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF CRUSTY OLD JAKES. It was founded by our crusty colleague, Captain Gonzo. Rumor has it that it was molded in his image.

Well thank you for the great education.... I probaly didnt understand because I dont have enough crust yet. See I am one of those generation X firefighters. Chief Reason........
No the did not film groundhoung day in Wisconsin to my knowledge. They did film the scene of the car going into that pit in Rockford, IL. As far as having a pro football team, I would not throw stones in a glass house. Here we got Title Town USA, Home of the Green Bay Packers. Most of the NFL teams dred coming to Lambo Field cause they are too much of a bunch of wossies because they cannot take the cold. Take a look at the low lifes to the east and west (Minnesota or Michigan)that have to play in a dome cause they dont have enough heart to come out and play or their fans to come out and cheer on the team when its 30 below zero in bilzzard conditions. As far as the Bears are concerned they suck so bad that they had to demote them to playing in a college statium so they can get used to the fact that they cant hang in the NFL....they have only won one superbowl ever. And dont even go there and say "We where the division champs last year" more like chumps, hell if anyone had a scheduale playing againest cheerleaders and high school freshman teams they would be Division Champs also at least we won our playoff game. That is one thing us chesse heads will go to battle over.......Our Football Team, Our Beer, and Our Cheese. The first greetings you get when you go to Illinois is a toll booth. I think what we should do is but a darn toll booth at the state line and tax all you FIBs upon entry to our great state. It wasn't my intention to cause a interstate war but we kinda get a little touchy when it comes too certain things....lol :D
Can anybody tell me if I am in this IACOJ?
FFsSignfOthr

Chief Reason
(SignfOthr) C'mon now, sound it out... I know you can do it... say it with me.... Sig - nif - i - kent --- u - ther There you go! I knew you could do it!
We don't charge a toll and our roads are in better shape than most states, especially when you consider what winter does to highways. Illinois is kind of like the big bully standing at the end of the alley, knowing it's the only way around so they nail you for coming through. Maybe it's time that Wisconsin and Michigan get together and build a big bridge across L. Michigan. That would put a dent in the old Illinois pocket.
Hey Mikey - I'm not the one driving 45. Usually I'm passing all those blue and white plates because they're paranoid, they know our boys in blue are out to get them. I just wave at the nice officer as I cruise on by.
Chief, we've had a lot of movies filmed here, plus a lot of the best sitcoms. Lots of great scenery and pretty decent people to boot. We have a reputation for being "wholesome" for a reason. Other states love to hire us because we also have a reputation for great work ethics.
Hail "Title Town"! Green Bay has a lot more football history than most cities. Anybody who knows football at all will recognize Vince Lombardi, the greatest coach ever.
QUOTE: And yes, there will be an initiation. Just curious, bout how long can you hold your breath?

Ok so I was reading the thread, thinking about JTL's return and this song came to mind...
Guess who just got back today?
That wild-eyed boy JTL who'd had been away
Things changed, there's much to say
But man, I still think that IACOJ is great
They were asking if you were around
How you was, where you could be found
I told them you were living downtown
Driving all the old men crazy
The boy is back in town
You know the chick (superchef) that used to cook a lot
Every night she'd be on the floor over a steaming pot
Man when I tell you she was cool, her food is red hot
I mean she was steaming
That night over at 1835wayne's place
Well this chick got up and she smeared dessert on his face
Man we just fell about the place
1835wayne wanted chocolate, and he got it...
Friday night they'll be dressed to kill
Down at Dino's bar and grill
The Guiness will flow and stories will spill
If the boys want to talk, you'd better let them
That jukebox in the corner blasting out my favorite song
The nights are getting warmer, it won't be long
It won't be long till summer comes
Now that JTL is here again
The boy is back in town

Here they come
The boys in the bright red fire truck
Wearin' hats sayin' IACOJ
Who do they think they are
And where did they get that name
There they go
The boys in the bright red fire truck
Honking at all the girls
It's jack-of-all-trades Stan
And Jerry the fireman
There they go
The boys are really rollin'
Some old lady called 911
Said the smoke is really flowin', flowin'
There they go
The boys are really rollin'
Some old lady called 911
Said the smoke is really flowin', flowin'
Here they come
The boys in the bright red fire truck
Wearin' hats sayin' IACOJ

Hey Superchef! My wife saw your last post and wants the recipes for the baked goods. She's actually breathing heavily right now! If they clog up the thread, you can email them to me. (See my profile). Lisa is going to be in San Fran on a business trip 6/28 to 7/1 and was wondering if you work at a restaurant where she can try these goodies.:D

Don't know, never actually measured it, but it takes about 30/40 minutes each way. some hilly areas, not too bad, just enough to get the legs burning. I just started up again because my truck just about died. So I figured I would get some exercise while looking for another truck. Went out and bought a new bike, old one was 30 years old and tired. Not worth fixing, same as the truck. Just have no luck with wheeled vehicles. :(

How does one get an application for such an organization. I have been trying to keep up with the postings but, I only have so much time on the "magic thinking box". From what I have read it looks like superchef should be working for foodTV. I have seen the regist. form for the Explorer post. I have 6 years in my volunteer co. and am working on going career.
