Is anyone out there using Rapalon (rapacuronium) In the field for RSI? We are looking into the pro's and con's of this drug in relationship to Sux. Any info would be helpfull. A copy of an RSI protocol c Rapalon would be nice... Thanks

JUST LIKE YOURSELF I HAVE BEEN WATCHING YOUR SITE FOR A REPLY. I WILL ADD THIS,OUR SERVICE HAS JUST ADOPTED A NEW PROTOCOL USING RAPALON, CURRENTLY IT IS IN THE HANDS OF OUR STATE EMS DEPT FOR APPROVAL. WE DID A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF RESEARCH AND WE FEEL IT IS ONE OF THE SAFEST PARALYTICS OUT, ALSO WITH VERY FEW CONTRAINDICATIONS. IF YOU WOULD LIKE A COPY OF OUR PROTOCOL, LET ME KNOW YOUR FAX NUMBER.

I too have been watching this, but holding off on replying.

Our OMD, the EMS Liason (Nurse/Medic), and one other medic are currently working on a RSI protocol for us. Right now it is in draft form and may take some time before it "hits the streets".

I had been talking with the Nurse/Medic about this a few weeks ago, and now I can't remember what paralytic he said we were going with (but I'm pretty sure it wasn't Rapalon and I know it wasn't Sux.)

I'll try to get more information & post it here whenever I see either the Nurse/Medic or our OMD again.

Sorry I can't be of much help, but I'll see what I can dig up in terms of what drug(s) we will be using & why they were chosen.

We use Norcuron for RSI. The dose is .1 mg/kg. Its attempt MC protocol. Its a nondepolarizing paralytic. Contraindications are infants less than 1 year and m. gravis. Effect is 1-2 minutes and the half life is about 40 minutes. I've used it once and it worked very well. We give Versed first.

Check out www.rapacuronium.com (http://www.rapacuronium.com) we don't use it ourselves (yet!), but it seems like a good site with a lot of information.

WE HAVE JUST BEEN NOTIFIED THAT THERE IS A VOLUNTARY MARKET WITHDRAWL OF ALL FORMS OF RAPLON, DUE TO SAFETY ISSUES INVOLVING ADVERSE DRUG REACTION AND THE OCCURENCE OF BROCHOSPASM AND A FEW UNEXPLAINED FATALITIES I HAVE A COPY OF THE OFFICIAL LETTER IF ANYONE NEEDS IT I CAN FAX. I THOUGHT WE FINALLY HAD THE PERFECT PARALYTIC. BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARDS.
