Our system is in the process of revising / updating ALS protocols. We have quite liberal protocols that allow us autonomy when treating patients. One of the things that we have noticed the last few years is that when treating someone with analgesics (NSAIDS or narcotics) we don't have a good way to assess or document the patient's pain. We use the 1 - 10 pain scale or some modification thereof.
Does anyone have a specific protocol to assess the patient's pain severity before and after treatment. If so, how do you use this protocol / procedure in conjunction with patient care and pain treatment.
