I am going to be updating the EMS protocols for our fire department. Has anyone seen the proposed changes to ACLS? I know that Cordorone is coming. Our Medical Director has also mentioned Lopressor and Vasopresson on the cardiac side. Some other medications we are looking at are Etomidate, Inapsine and Romazicon to name a few. If you are currently using these medications or have any information on them let me know. Any information posted will be greatly appreciated. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have been using Cordarone for about 3 years now. It has re-placed lidocaine in our system as our first line anit-arrhythmic and seems to be doing very well. Etomadate has many good reviews and is used in our RSI procedures. Many services down here however, have take Romazicon off the trucks. There has been speculation as too way but no hard core evidence. Anyway if I can help you in any other way let me know.

You might want to check out The American Heart Association web page for information on ordering Guidelines 2000. I think you'll find everything you need.

Baber's right. The new ACLS materials aren't available yet, but the information that will be in the new text is in the ECC handbook. It's small, convenient, and packed with all the info you need. I couldn't find the materials on the AHA website (www.americanheart.org), but you can get them from WorldPoint ECC (www.worldpoint-ecc.com).
