I've been "volunteered" to give a short lecture at a staff meeting on new / upcoming prehospital meds. Other than amiodarone I'm stuck! Any suggestions? Thanks for any help.

Various rapid sequence intubation meds such as amidate. Versed for seizures. Fentanyl & Nitus Oxide for pain management. Trandate for hypertenison.
I am not familiar with the protocols in your area so I dot know what is new to you. We have been using these for a couple of years now, but many systems have not started using them yet. Any questions drop me a line.

Thanks for the reply. We're one of the few systems that carry Norcuron and Procardia around here. We use Versed for ped. seizures. Were bending our MD's ear about nitrous and Fentanyl. He's pretty receptive if we can show need and potential benefits. Thanks again.

There is a great new one out there called Diastat...except for its delivery...it is rectal valium delivered in a gel form similar to KY-jelly...I believe the dose is 10 mg. There is a relatively new study that suggests that patients who have an extended post-ictal state may still be seizing "in the brain" and this drug is ment to snowball this...of course it is intended for patients with pre-existing sz hx but is still effective on sz from trauma, intracerebral bleed, etc...Hope this helps...
