HEY , WE RUN AT LEAST 1 MEDIC & 1 EMT ON RESCUE TRUCKS. IF ALS CALL COMES IN THE ENGINE IS DISPATCHED ALSO. ENGINES HAVE AT LEAST 1 MEDIC. ON GOOD DAYS MY RESCUE COULD HAVE 3 MEN , AT LEAST 1 MEDIC MIN. IF I AM ON A 3 MAN RESCUE , I ADVISE ON THE ENGINE. IF ON A 2 MAN RESCUE , I HEAR WHAT THE REFERENCE IS ? SOME TIMES I ADVISE OTHER TIMES THE ENGINE ROLLS! QUESTION? WHATS YOUR MANNING # FOR RESCUE & ENGINES + HOW MANY MEDICS ON EACH RIG? THANKS......

Not all our companies are ALS, but the ones that are ride with 1 medic. Min staffing total is 4 men per company. Thats the same for pumper or truck.

Our minimium staffing is 4 man, we will run with 3 for short periods of time during the day (medic at the ER, etc) We must advise alarm of this staffing level if it affects the type of call we are on (fire). We strive for 2 medics for our engine, but will run with one if necisary. If we are solo medic we must special call an additional ALS unit if we are going on a call that is bad (code, gsw, etc) we can typically handle most calls with one medic, but we have this requirment due to one of the agencies that we have an automatic aid aggreement with, they do it so must we!

We run 2 medics on boxes; engines are 3 man co's and depending on station/shift, will have 0-3 medics. [About 65-70% of dept are now medics, guys hired since 84 must be at least EMTB.] Our engines run backup on ALS calls. Rescue is a 2 man vehicle and has no requirements to be EMTB or above, tho' 80% of crews (all shifts) are at least EMTs. Our rescue responds EMS only if that station's engine is out. [except for pin jobs, that's their cookie]

Maybe this isn't exactly what your asking, but hears what we do;

I work for a private ambulance service (volunteer on the side as FF/Paramedic for FD). The ambulance staffs two medics and for the most part that is all we utilize for our responses. It works out quite well - we seldom need more then that to handle EMS calls.

We run an als transport agency utilizing on duty fire personel. Staffing is 1 emt and 1 paramedic perunit. Every so often we are graced with the pleasure of having two medics on board. Unfortunately in a seniority based system the junior medic all most always is assigned to these units. Back up als is assigned to our heavy rescue 4 man minimum at least 1 medic many times 2. We operate a two tier system bls engines and trucks they are dispatched with the ambulance/ medic on every call. Unfortunately we are operating at bare minimum 2 per rig. We are fortunate to have almost 45 medics in a 110 man department this helps when on call many bls units have medics temporarily assigned on a daily basis helps on the bad calls. We haven't yet swollowed the idea of placing als equiptment on the bls units.

We have a minimum staffing of 6 - max is 9 per shift for 2 engines, 1 platform and 2 ALS ambulances out of 2 stations. All rescue calls (97% of our call volume, 1300 calls per year) get a minimum of 2 paramedics and 1 EMT. On codes or certain other critical calls we roll both ambulances to have a minimum of 4 Paramedics and 2 EMTs on the scene and thats not counting the I.V. holder (police officer) We are pretty lucky in that respect as our department is willing to pay 15 out of 27 of us as paramedics.

We have a minimum of a 10 person shift with total of 12 per crew. 2 Engines(3 per), 1 Platform(2 Per) and 1 Paramedic rig(2 per). A request for 2nd, 3rd & 4th ambulance within the county (810 sq miles, 3200 runs/year) requires breakdown of engine companies. Fire coverage within city limits(500 runs/year). County contract pays for 10 people, requiring 3 staffed ambulances per day. Wisconsin requires 2 Paramedics per ambulance. 20 of 36 are Paramedics with two retirements in next few hours.
