With Third Watch beginning it's second season on NBC this Monday I would like to start a fourm where you post your opinion about that night's thrid watch epsiode. So we sahll begin on Monday.

Yeah! Though it's the romance line that's driving us crazy. What's that idiot female paramedic doing, going back to the compulsive gambler ex-husband when she could have Bobby for the asking?
It does seem like the cops have more moral dilemnas in the line of work to face than the firefighters--- wonder if that's true to life?
I did wonder how often EMTs run into protective animals as fierce as that cockatoo. I know my dog (malamute/airdale mix) won't let ANYONE near me he doesn't trust when I'm sick or injured. Luckily, he likes all the folks in our dept. My ex-husband, now, that's another story.

Great show, Third Watch. I'm not sure, though, how I feel about them focusing more on the characters this season. We'll see. And just for kicks- am I the only one who sees Engine 57 is an E-One? FDNY uses Seagraves and Macks only. http://www.firehouse.com/interactive/boards/smile.gif

Ahhhh...TruroFAO,
That is where you are wrong...engine 47(I think) was an E-One for several years. FDNY ordered it to be a spec. model for future orders. It never came through and the E-One stayed for about 2 years before the Seagrave replaced it. It was made to FDNY specs though and some were quite happy with it...but only a few, from what I understand, the E47 crew didnt like it that much, so it bit the dust.

Did anyone catch the number on that Squad that was at the accident? Squad 55, they can never seem to get out of the 55 District! BTW, daysleeper is right, the FDNY had an E-One in 1996 that was shifted into every borough, but I guess the companies didn't care for it.

First of all stop the E-One bashing all three of my city's engien compnay's are E-ones there nice and spacious, Seagrave if you have a crew of over four there to small E-ones hold up to ten firefighters. One thing is where is the Engine company half the time they sgolud roll with the bus on an EMS call. "BOY 55"

The E-one engine that you are talking about was built with a raised roof -- the E-One that NBC is currently using is on loan to them from E-One -- it has a flat roof, in order to look more like the Seagrave's that NYC uses.

http://www.firehouse.com/interactive/boards/uploads/95hushisf.jpg

TM- NYC fire apparatus don't need to hold 10 firefighters - they hold a crew of 5, and henceforth don't need huge crew cabs found on other apparatus. E-One did bid with all the other apparatus manufacturers-- they just didn't win the bid.

I just hope that the producers of the show remember that the Fire Department is also included in the show-- and start showing some Fire!!

Finally somewhere where I can hear more about Third Watch then... "Bosco is just the cutest!!!" http://www.firehouse.com/interactive/boards/smile.gif Although I do have to agree that Bobby and Kimmie should be a couple rather then Kimmie and Jimmy.

As far as last week, what did you all think about Doc's trying to cope with racism etc. I live and work in an area that has a high concentration of hispanics, and the only thing that I find frustrating is that I can't always understand them when I'm trying to treat them...

Anyway, let's keep our fingers crossed that tonight will be as good as the preview looked! http://www.firehouse.com/interactive/boards/smile.gif

Hiya-
Sorry about the E-One thing. I didn't mean to make it appear like I was bashing them. Several departments around us have E-One rigs. The federal fire dept in Columbus uses a teriffic Hurricane model platform tower. One of the best ladders in the city.

I remember that the one E-One was used a few years ago, but that it just didn't fit in....

All of a sudden, they went from Engine 57 to Squad 55? I could see if they went from 57 Engine to 57 Squad, but why the number change too? Just food for thought...

I'm not sure I like the big focus on characters this season...I think I liked it more last season...And get a load of the truck they use for Ladder 100. I single axle...wow... http://www.firehouse.com/interactive/boards/smile.gif

First of all Engine 57 did appear in last night's episode on the first fire scene you could see it parked in front of Ladder 100. Besides in the cbas where are the headsets that they where in the rigs. I hate Bosco he is annoying. I think that Doc let his emotions get the best of him. All three Engine's that Monrovia FD uses Engine's 101, 102 and 201 are all E-ones they last a long time we just got rid of our old type 3 1974 E-one Brush rig

That whole fire sequence made very little sense. Jimmy comes from inside the building to work the hydrant? Where was the operator? Then with the woman ff at the rear with the victim. I'll assume for the time being that she was correct in not venting until they had water. But if the victim broke the window, why didn't the backdraft happen then (if that's what it was) instead of when she opened the interior door? Anybody?

In reference to the change from Engine to Squad, I would have to guess the tech advisors suggested it. A FDNY "Squad" is an Engine with the majority of equipment that a Truck carries. I't my understanding that they can do both tasks on the fireground. The choice was probably made to give the actors more to do.

Third Watch is the best portrayal of the life of the fireservice and its members since Emergency. It's entertainment, not a training video, sit back and enjoy.

I thought about that after I posted, they probably did switch to Squad 55 because of the fact they then would carry the Jaws and do pretty much anything on the fire grounds.

Refrence to ADSN/WLFD:
Squads act as an Engine OR a Rescue on the fireground, depending on how they are assigned by the command. I still don't follow how they went from Engine 57 to Squad 55. If Engine 57 was on the firescene a couple weeks ago, then did the entire crew move to a new rig? Or did the old 57 Engine just move to a new station and they got a new Squad? Maybe they'll address that in a future episode...

Good point CollegeBuff...Anyone got any ideas?

Be safe...

I think that the show is doing better on the fire part this season then the first season. Last year there was not to much to do with the NYFD, but this season is doing A LITTLE better but could use more NYFD action.

Apparently the producers have a thing about the number 55. I wouldn't be surprised if they swapped out 100 Truck for Ladder 55 (except that there really is a Ladder 55 in the Bronx).
If they just wanted to change to a squad, they could have had Engine 57 convert to Squad 57, which is how FDNY has been creating squads over the last 4 years. I don't think companies in NYC swap firehouses like that. Sometimes they'll move a company from one house to another, but swapping an engine and a squad like that probably wouldn't happen.
Of course, they will probably never explain it in the show, because it is just a TV show, and like all TV shows, will be filled with errors that people who do this for real will easily pick out.

Okay last nights episode was not that bads but is there anyone just like me who is getting mad at the prodcuers becasue they focus on the cops to much, Hello what happend to the FD, There are two may cop dramas out there and that is what they're trying to turn it into a cop drama and maybe one episode devoted to fire

Engine 101
11-27-2000, 08:23 PM
Look's like TM was right, Another episode devoted to a cop, i AGREE IT SHOULD BE FOCUSING MORE ON THE FD than the PD, It looks like they are tying to edge out the fire portion so people get more hooked on the police then it'll be all police and they'll chnage it to the 55 Precinct next thing we know, Basically any episode that does not focus on the Fire Department sucks

Let's get this back to what it was meant to be!! This weeks episode, had some fire, so it wasn't to bad. BTW - I read in Fire Chief that the reason they don't have as much fire, is because they like to have big ones, so the audience looks forward to them, plus, it costs a lot to make a fire!

Does anybody know the rating the show has been reciving?. With the lack of focus of FDNY the show had become somewhat boring, Stopped by the Third Watch Online Fan club and alot of people feel the same way we do they would like to see some more focus and either Jimmy or Alex something to due with fire speaking of Alex Taylor, How do you like her being added as a full time cast member now?, She's not bad, I think it is a good addtion to show, Doc needs to know that there are somethings in life that remian better untold and that is my 2 cents

Here is a previwe of the first thrid watch episode of 2001
1/1/01
DEMOLITION DERBY
Firefighters, paramedics and police converge on a building that collapses on demolition workers, trapping two brothers-in-law (J.K. Simmons and David Vadim), and while Doherty and Kim work feverishly amid the debris, they ignore orders to evacuate, even though the inevitable final crush is just minutes away...

Large fires cost too much to film????

They could have filmed two weeks ago as the top floor of their studio on Diamond St. Brooklyn went to a second alarm. Cockloft, through the roof and black smoke for miles.
BTW, only minor water damage to the equipment on the first floor.

Nice job, E-238, L-106, E-229, L-146 and E-212. Not to mention the Queens Marines, E-258, E-259, L-138, and the boss in Batt-45.

I think the number "55" is used because that's the number of the police precint across the street from the firehouse. I believe the ambulance numbers also have a "55" in them somewhere. Aren't they Adam 55-1 and Adam 55-2????? It's kinda like Boscoe/Yokis are 55-Charlie and Sullivan/Davis are 55-David.

Also - Why do they have to make the only "featured" firefighter such a dirtbag????

Hey there Thoe1, I think that I have the answer to your question.

If you are refering to the scene where a new paramedic shows up on a scene (sorry don't remember exacts) and there is a shot of her for a total of about five seconds. She is shown twice. The person is you are thinking of is the one and only "Rosie O'Donnell" I saw her and my wife confirmed it. (She could tell you who the walkin extra's on any movie are and tell you what other movie they are in, she's like that) But I saw her and I was right, but I have not seen her since.

Well I think that will be all for now.
