I am trying to collect info on both the State Farm Arson Dog Program, and on the Atf Arson Dog Program. I would like to know the advantages and disadvantages of each program, and which dog do you prefer.
Thanks

I have explored both options and went with the State Farm program. I report to Maine this summer to recieve training and my dog. E-mail me and I will answer any questions that I can for you about the two programs.

I went thru the State Farm Program last year. I was thoroghly impressed with the trainers as well as their selection of dogs. The thing to remember is its not which dog is best, its which handler is best. The K9 is only as good as its handler and sometimes better. You must understand, that its alot of work and commitment. You must constantly train with your K9 each and every day. I am very fortunate and honored to have been accepted to the State Farm program. I dont have much knowledge on the ATF program but I can and will speak very highly of Paul Gallagher, Head Trainer/Handler or (alpha dog) of the Maine State Police Arson Dog Academy. Paul is world renowned and highly respected in the K9 world. He produces some of the finest K9/Handler teams in the world. I cannot say enough about Paul and his staff and the excellent training that I received at this academy, and about State Farm for their continuance with this program.

You can contact an ATF office and they can give you a name of a handler in your area to talk to. The somewhat bad thing or good about ATF handler is that you are required to travel when needed. That can sometimes be quite a bit, also your department has to support the program.
