I was recently on the scene of a home that had been struck by lightening. During our investigation, the neighbor came up to us and said that when the lightening hit this house, her children had battery powered toys that began to operate for a few seconds. Has anyone ever had this situation, can it be true ?

In response to the electronic toys starting to operate during a electrical storm, it happened approx. 4 years ago in my home. Wife was home with the kids during the storm and the toys started operating (battery operated fire truck of course). She told me what happened, but not quite believing her, until it happened to me several weeks later. Had to eat crow that day. Did not have a strike close to us, but several blocks away. I would beleive the static field from the strike caused the toy to operate.

See ya later
till then "They light'em, we fight'em" or "dash for a crash"

Actually, the cause would be induced electrical current caused by the generation of an electromagnetic field during the lighting strike.

Never have witnessed that, but I have had the chance to run from ball lighting. First lesson, don't run. You create a vacuum!
