At our post we do training with the company. Then we have our own training where we study the Essintals book. Hope this helps!

One thing our post did that I thought was so awesome was the took two trucks out of the bays and made a big maze, full of tables on their sides, walls, ladders, etc. and then made a big wall out of tarp, so you couldn't see any of the maze from outside. Then at night when it was dark we put on our SCBA's and went through the maze. The advisors also put tape over our masks so we couldn't see. While we were going through the maze, the advisors would make noises, spray water, flash lights and other stuff to simulate what it would be like in a burning building. I recommend every post do it, because it was the funnest thing I ever did!!!

Our cadets are involved in department training, but once a month on a saturday morning we drill from 0900 to 1200 on the essentials book. Part classroom and part practical.

Our Jrs. have training with the other firefighters every tuesday night from 7:00 to 9:00pm. Then every Thursday we have our Essentials class from 6pm to 10pm. I loved when we did the SCBA chapter when we went threw our advanced maze smoke pouring out of the trailor and the excitement of finally getting out of the maze because it was so hot!!!

Having been a junior, I can say it definitely pays off to have the juniors train with regualr members. This way they learn where they can be helpful on scene, as well as gain some knowledge for their future as firefighters. Juniors were not always allowed to do everything, such as operate saws and trucks, but they were allowed to assist. They were allowed to particiapate in SCBA training and other such hands on activites. Many of the members have complemented them on their efficiency on the fire scene and for their hard work afterwards. So it definitely pays off to have the juniors train with regular members.
