LAS VEGAS FIRE PROGRAM ACCEPTING NEW MEMBERS
The Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Fire Explorers will be accepting new
members in June. The Fire Explorer program give high school and college
students a chance to learn about firefighting as a career. At the same time,
they are receiving training, which in many cases can be beneficial to them
when they compete for full-time positions with a fire department.
The Las Vegas Fire Explorer program has been highly successful,
giving a number of students a chance to experience what it is like to be a
firefighters. They attend classes and drill sessions at the department’s
Fire Training Academy. They also participate in a number of fire department
activities, such as Graduation Ceremonies for new firefighters. Fire
Explorers DO NOT participate in the extinguishing of actual fires. But they
do get a chance to learn about fire, even a chance to participate in the
training building where firefighters learn how to combat building fires.
Explorer minimum qualifications are:
It is open to both male and female student who have a
desire to learn and to challenge themselves.
Age: 15-21 years old. Explorers who join the program before their 21st
birthday, can stay
in the program until they are 25.
Maintain a 2.0 grade point average in school.
Have NO criminal convictions
Be able to attend meetings at the Fire Training Center every Sunday from
7:30AM until NOON during their six month probationary period.
