Just my guess, but I would think that it would be a nfpa approved helmet much like what the other members of the department and or company is wearing!! No brainer here.

Way to use the search feature. 7 years old! Wow. I'm not being sarcastic either, I'm impressed.
To answer the thread, we don't have any juniors at my current dept. At my old one, they wore the exact same as the regular firefighters (either a 660c, a 1010, or a 1040? that's the new one right? same as a 1010, but matte colored), they just had junior ff on their shield if they had a 1010/1040 or a junior crescent on their 660c.

We have pseudo-junior members, who are 16-18 years old, but we don't call them "Junior Firefighters". They do have quite a few restrictions on what they can do, however, per any applicable laws as well as our own good judgment and common sense.
Anyway, they get the same stuff everyone else does, leather New Yorkers/Sam Houstons (depending on what we have laying around) with an orange "Probationary Firefighter" shield.

Yeah, I seriously doubt that they are still a junior. If they are then they started when they were 11 or younger. Granted they might still be the junior firefighter where they are, but they sure aren't a Junior Firefighter anymore.

The rookies get issued an orange helmet. They are older helmets that were for firefighters until we went to yellow for firefighters. That way we know at a quick glance that the pumpkin heads, as they are sometimes called, are rookies and won't get assigned certain tasks that they are not allowed to do yet.

I'm on two depts. In Vernon, we get up-to-date yellow helmets. But, we have a shortage of them, so I have to share with our Explorer Captain. In Guilford, we have the same helmets as the firefighters, but there is a sticker we put on the back that says Junior.

I'm still trying to envision how one goes about sharing a helmet on scene. Is it like sharing an umbrella, you both hold it up above your heads or what?

Our explorers don't wear helmets as they are never on the fireground or put in any area of danger - so they get ball caps.

Your explorers do not do any kind of training? You dont even take them out and teach them how to operate a handline in a parking lot somewhere?

Please grow up. No one finds your comments to be funny. If you would like to have a mature and thought out conversation and be given a little respect, please act maturely.

You don't have enough time in the fire service to have an opinion about what is gay or what is cool. Keep up that attitude and you will be labeled as the "gay" junior/explorer.

Anybody else ever notice that there's a correlation between how knowledgeable someone is and how opinionated they are? Generally speaking, the more opinionated someone is on a topic, the less they know about it. ;) I think our dear AirSoft fits that category.
His airsoft team could probably teach small unit tactics in Ranger School, I'm sure...

He is normally at basketball during trainings and I usually get to the station by the time the truck has left. :( Now, my dad, the chief in Guilford, bought me a brand-new one yesterday. Thank God, because the Captain has a bigger head than I.
