View Full Version : Gloves "What type or brand?"
The hood thread had a lot of good replies and got me to thinking about my gloves. What types, materials and brands do you recommend using? This is for fire fighting use.

The Glove Corporation. They are made of elk skin, very nice. Water proof (resistant) and they stay pliable even after a job.
We are issued Morning Pride gloves in both my career and volunteer dept.'s. A unique design perfect for the gear that is being worn today. It is a normal glove with a loose(non-elastic) wrist. There is than a PBI sleeve if you will that is sown on at the wrist and comes up about half way to your elbow. There is a post man slide cinch strap on the end of the sleeve to allow you to close the glove around your forearm. These were designed in co-operation with the Houston Fire Department and are great. The purpose is to eliminate the bunching up of your coat and the glove at the wrist. Works like a champ. They run about $100.00 per pair. Be safe.

We wear FIREFIGHTER VIII NFPA gloves. Soft leather and work well after a job. No shrinking after washed and dryed.

Shelby's (Firewall model I think) just make sure they're the green ones. I've had the pair I'm wearing now for about a year and they haven't stiffened up yet.
As a department, we've been using them for a few years now, and the only problems we've had is they wear out or get lost. And like I said, I haven't seen this brand stiffen up yet. Every brand we tried before has.
