I find myself dreading to read the Headlines on this site because I am tired, tired of all the Line of Duty Deaths of our brothers. I take my job seriously and teach others to do the same...where are we failing?

While you may be tired of reading the LODD, I think it is an important part of this web site. If one injury or death is prevented by a "lesson learned" from one of these articles, then it is worth it. I have been an IC on an incident that produced multiple injuries due to a sudden explosion. Injuries would have been worse without proper PPE. I think the awareness generated is a good teacher. Always stay alert and pratcice safety in all that you do.

I too am very saddened by the numerous LODD listed here however I look at each one as a learning opportunity. I try to see what if anything could have been done to prevent them. A very commmon thread I see in many injuries and deaths is PPE and PT. For whatever reasons, it seems that the longer a person has been in the fire service, the more they seem to think they don't have to wear a pack, button that collar, wear a hood, etc. The bad part is many officers and safety people seem to condone the attitude. The other link I have observed is the lack of personal physical fitness. While there are many reasons why ffs die on the job, the simple task of making sure these two items are taken care of would greatly reduce the number of injuries and maybe even a few deaths.
