To all of you that offered me your advice:

Thanks a ton! You helped me figure out the right thing to do for both me and my fire department. I'm going to go home to Massachusetts and relax with my folks for a couple of weeks and then I'll go take the EMT-II class nice and refreshed! I wrote my posts rather frantically because I had to make a decision REALLY SOON. I didn't want to do the wrong thing.
