I sat down last night and thought of all I've heard, its not much, but its from me

“It Was Me”

It was me
That kissed you Good Bye this morning
As I headed off to work
It was me
That waved to you, neighbor,
As I headed down the street
You stood there as always saying
“I wish I had your job
only working two days a week”
It was me
That waved to the kids at the school
Playing without a care
Waiting for the bell to ring
Enjoying the early morning air
It was me
That loved coming to work
A perfect job, with great partners
Always friends, we needed each other
It was me
That you saw jump on the engine
The lights on, sirens screaming
Heading for another job
But today was different
It was me
That was rushing in the door
While you were coming out
Telling me “Good Luck”
Climbing the stairs
While others came down
“Down is Good”
It was me
That stopped on 31
Only 40 or 50 floors to go
We need to help them up there
Must go for the top
It was me
That yelled “MayDay”
Into the radio
The buildings’ coming down
Only one thought “God help us all”
It was me
No it was many that were lost
On this fateful day
Doing what we loved to do
Fighting fires, Saving lives
Today will change for many
Families, Friends, & Strangers
But do not mourn, do not cry,
Look up into the cool night sky
That shooting star
A flickering light
It was me

Mark,

Until I read your poem I had not cried over
this horrible tragedy. I feel better now but
I can still barely see what I am typing. I
would like your permission to reprint your
poem in the Jamestown Post-Journal, of course, with your credit.

I received an email, that someone couldn't find this, so I moved it up again. Thank You

Blessed are those who gave up their lives so others could live !

They look down on us now, knowing that their memory will live on and that we as a nation, no, a world firefighting group grows stronger everyday.

Mark,

I really enjoyed your poem. I oftenuse poetry myself to express feelings aboutsuch tragedies. Would you mind if I copy and paste your poem and share it with others. One of my poems I shared with a friend from New York and she has shared it with several people there and tells me that they loved it and that it helps them too cope with the emotions.null

“I SHALL REMEMBER “
SEPTEMBER 11, 2001

I will remember all the people on that fateful day.

When all that horror came crashing down upon them and now with God they stay.

From this arose so many heroes and I stand and look in awe.

I thank the Lord for giving us such hero’s filled with purest love.

Though millions of tears surround them, they come shinning through the smoke and ash.

There is nothing that can stop them and only God can give them rest.

Oh God! Oh God! In only you I trust.

Please give us strength and courage that is needed oh so much.

With you oh Lord beside us, we will make it through.

I will always remember September 11, 2001 for this was the day God chose to call these souls away.

So thank you Firemen, Policemen Doctor’s and ordinary people who took the time to stay.

Let us not forget the hero’s in those burning buildings and what they taught us on that day.

That we too can be hero’s if we can love that way!

Then there’s the hero’s on that plane, which knew what was to come.

What pain, and courage and great love of God, I’m sure they had to die that way!

Oh yes, we shall remember September 11, 2001 for the wave of tears and sadness that engulfed us on that day!

We shall over come this great tragedy our good Lord will send Angels to take this great sadness and hurt away.

Lord, pick up our tears and take them to yourself. Then we shall have joy and happiness for days and days and days.
