For all the Vollies that may go to scene's with their POV's, what do you keep in it and where? If it is a pickup truck, how do you store it all? Tool bax, bed cover, cap?

I have a 96 Jeep Cherokee, I store all my stuff in the cargo area. I carry my bunker gear in a "step in" bag. Since I'm an EMT also, I carry a jump kit and O2 kit with me. I also have a maglight and FD/ambulance pullover, traffic vest and forestry hard hat. I can usually get to the scene quicker than our rescue vehicle, especially if it's in the northern end of town. Our rescue is stationed in the southern end. I have a mobile radio and I carry a portable also.

Some of you guys go a little over board don't you? We are not supposed to go to the scene unless we HAVE to drive past it to get to the station, but I do have a small basic jump kit,10lb dry chem, ax, pulaski, tow chain, roadside tri-angle reflecters, maglight, leather gloves, boots, hide-away strobes, mobile and portable radios and it is all kept in the toolbox of my fullsize 1999 GMC Sierra ext. cab 4x4.

I live about 1 block away from the station(In fact, all of our members live within 5 blocks of the station) so all I carry is my keys so that I can get in and get on a rig.
Our chief has a little saying: "Lets take the big red trucks with the water to the fire this time."

I have a BLS kit and o2, and I keep my TOG with me even though I live close to the station(you never know when youu are going to catch a call on the road), A good set of hand tools, a portable air tank, a battery booster pack, tie down straps, and a tow strap( all this mainly for my own use), the trusted mag light, a CB for hunting, a scanner cause I'm nosy, and the old dash laser. All that fits in my tool box of my truck, except my TOG, it rides in a waterproof bag in the bed.

Nothing illegal about a shotgun. A hand gun has to be registered. Besides you need to aim with a pistol. Double ought 12 guage only requires pointing. Shoot first, you may not get a second chance.

In the cab: Which has a buddy heater for those cold winter nights.
County Maps,
Haz-Mat Books
Two Way Radio(s) Mobile and A Portable
Spanner and Hydrant Wrenches
EMT bag in the Winter
Rubber Gloves
Most of our Fire Fighting equipment is usually in the trucks that are parked in the station.

As soon as I can figure a way to squeeze it in, I'm gonna mount a "Q" under the hood of my truck - I think I might have to move the Grovers to the roof, though.
Seriously - I don't see the need for a plethora of equipment - guys in my company only go to the scene in the POV if it's closer to your location at dispatch than the firehouse is - I carry my turnout gear, a couple sets of trauma gloves, a dry chem extinguisher, a CPR mask, a couple of road flares and a good Mag light (to find the house numbers at night - sure wish I had one of those spotlights on the A-column!)
One of these days I'm gonna get me a Scott-pack, but first I gotta get that standpipe pack with the 200' leader line of 2 1/2 with the hydrant valve and a good PPV fan and a small set of hydraulic tools and a generator and some lights and.........

Medium size EMS Kit, Ambulance Jumpsuit, Maglight. Cheap cordless spotlight as of this year, plus a scanner.
Sometimes bunker gear in the tool box in back, if it's not at the station drying, or staying warm during the winter.
Also normally carry a 200' Utility rope, but haven't gotten it back in the truck since I bought a new one a few months back.

I carry:
1) Trauma Box (everything but O2)
2) Dry Chem Ext.
3) Crow Bar
4) Tarp
5) 1,000,000 CP Rechargable spotlight
6) back up flashlight
7) Bright Orange Raincoat
I have yet to drive to the scene on purpose, I've only pulled up in POV on accidents that I just happened to be passing.

For all of you carrying guns in your POV's... I once heard that you are something like 30 times more likely to get shot if you try to retaliate with your own gun should the situation to use one ever arise. I feel if someone is going to try to steal my car or car jack me, I will let them have whatever they want. Cars and material possessions can be replaced, lives can't. Yall be safe. ;)

I drive a ford ranger and i somehow manage to fit everything in the passenger seat and floorboard. I carry my trauma bag and oxygen tank since i first respond to medical calls in my area. Also i carry my bunker gear and SCBA mask since i am less then half a mile from the station. I also have a mobile radio and handhelds for communications. The only problem is when i have someone ride with me then i have to unpack everything and put it in the back.

I have a '96 Dakota. Everything is behind the seat right now; bunker gear, flares, Maglight, two portable radios (fire & EMS), mobile radio, rope, haz-mat book, & 9mm. The only thing I can't fit is my helmet. It goes on the seat. I just got the truck so I will probably be getting a toolbox before winter. Then I can carry my spare bunker coat, EMS bag with O2, chainsaw, and hand tools. Don't need spotlights, alley lights do the job. ;)

Where to begin, I drive a chevy blazer which has my bunbker gear, in a step-in bag, I have wildland gear, in another bag. Being an EMT I also carry a trauma kit. I have a army ruck sack wich carries everything from a change of clothes, to 200 feet of climbing rope, and some MRE's. I am a swiftwater rescue tech so I also carry my PFD and my throw bag and a hand full of carabiners. And last but not least on those cold dark nights I have my trusty 1.5 million candle power flashlight, so I can find my way home.

What are some of you thinking? Why carry anything besides your bunker gear? What are you going to do without any water? Medical equipment is good in some cases, but what if nobody responds a transport unit of an ALS truck is far out? Bunker gear is a must if you don't live near the station but leave the fire truck alone. You are not in competition with it. In my opinion, when I see a FF with stuff all over their vehicle, stickers and warning lights everywhere I think it shows unprofessionalism. You guys need to shape up, respond a truck if going by the station and represent your department a little better. A walkie and a set-of-irons is not going to put the fire out.

THINK GUN SAFE.& GUN SMART
How many times we left our windows open in our POV's and get back at the station, and its raining cats and dogs...
Or we are missing equipment from your station because we left the bay doors open...
We are here to save lives...
Make sure your gun is locked in car or truck... or take it with you if you have a carry permit... BE GUN SMART
I have a GLOCK 26 "9mm" and xtra 10 rounds on me.
and on that note, We have a much better IC system than most...
