Has anyone used www.eeii.org for their EMT refresher for FLA? I'm checking it out, the DOH has it on their site as a creditable refresher program. For $150 it doesn't seem that bad of an idea.

yes, I just completed their paramedic refresher. It is long and detailed, I believe mine was 77 pages. Imagine sitting through the refresher class and taking notes over the whole thing. That's what you'll do. Then there is a test at the end. National Reg does accept it. I sent mine in March and received my new card within a couple of weeks. I called NR to make sure prior to sending it in. If you don't have NR I would check with you state to make sure they will accept it. I did the mailed version also. Call them with q's I don't remember the guys name but everyone there seems to be pretty helpful.

Go do your refresher at a place like your local community college, o, if you so choose, FMTI. They are usually cheaper.

BLS, no offense but I've only heard bad things about FMTI. The thing with EEII is you get the paperwork sent to you and you finish it at your own pace.

It all depends on the campus.
Where are you located?
I went there for EVOC, Fire Standards, and now Medic. They DO seem very interested in the allmighty dollar, but there are many quality instructors.

Near Tampa. There's an FMTI over here but I've talked to many many people who wouldn't do it again. Plus FMTI isn't accredited so none of my credits from there would transfer to a college for a degree seeking program.

Skip FMTI dude.
eeii is totally fine and a good way to go for a refresher.
I am overseas and more than a dozen of us over here used eeii to refresh our national registry paramedic and state recertification.
Neither agency gave us any issue over it and it was well worth it.
You dont waste time or money taking off from work, gas and food to sit in a refresher all week.
It is self paced and it does require some time and effort on your part. It is not a cool breeze walking in the park kind of thing.
Between my work schedule and personal committments, it took me just shy of a week to do the medic one. I had to access several different sources of info (web, textbooks, guidelines, etc) to answer everything properly. And yes I did learn a few new things and I remembered some old things I had forgotten.

As far as your National was concerned, what courses did you take to fullfil your 72 hour commitment?

Seeing as how the refresher fulfills 48 hours of that requirement, that leaves you to get 24 more hours in a 2 year period. Not all that difficult...
16 hours can come from :
ABLS
ACLS
AMLS
BTLS
NALS
PALS
PEPP
PHTLS
PPC
AE
If that was not enough, you can get 12 hours EACH from:
Teaching CPR
Emergency Driving
Dispatch Training
You can also apply 12 hours from distributive education as long as it is CECBEMS approved. This includes a lot of online stuff that is a simple google click away.
In addition, you can apply some college courses as well if you are a current student. 12 hours maximum
Biology, Anatomy, Chemistry, Cell bio, physiology, psychology, pharmacology, etc.
Only 3 hours can be applied from sociology and communications.
So as you can see, with so many options available, it is ridiculous for someone to say they can not get 24 hours of continuing education in a 2 year period. Just ridiculous. Not that you said that but I have heard it before.
Anyways, good luck.

Thanks man you helped a lot. Although, if you look at the EEII website it states that the EMT refresher is only 30 hours. You did give me some ideas on where to get the other training. I just took a job at a helicopter ambulance doing dispatch, I'm wondering if they consider being taught the communications as the 12 hours or actually teaching the communications.

First of all, I gave you the medic refresher hour requirements.
For a basic, you only need 48 hours of continuing ed, so minus the 30 hour refresher, you only need to get 18 more hours to recert.
All the other info on where to get CMEs is the same.
However do not strive for the minimum, hours are easy to get. The more you do, the better you will become and you will never have to worry if you have enough or be scrambling around trying to do last minute classes.

According to NREMT.org (http://nremt.org/downloads/EMT.basic.pdf) it says that you must have 24 hours DOT National Standard EMT-Basic and on the next portion says 48 additional EMS related continuing education. From what you're telling me I only need 48 hours for basic but it looks like they want 72 hours for basic. That's what I'm confused with, do I need 72 or 48?

Mea Culpa brother, I screwed the pooch.
Yes you do need 72 hours.
Go with my first post as being correct info, it all still applies.
Good Luck!
